Correct, but I mentioned that they discontinued the 6th gen iPod touch only to drop support for it 30 days later.
Yeah, iPod Touch is treated like a second class citizen now. I think they only keep it around as it is popular with businesses as POS devices and they don't really care about software updates as long as they can run their POS software on it (and also prefer that the form factor doesn't change so they can plug and play if a device gets broken). With Apple's current push into services dropping the Apple TV 4/HD or the HomePod from support anytime soon doesn't make sense since they both still do their job with a good user experience.

I’m more worried about let’s say iPad Pro 2020 12,9 / 512Gb model that has an A12Z. This model will be supported by Apple’s standards for 5 years and let’s say will be obsolete in about 7 years coz most software won’t run on it by then.
It’s a 2000€ device (keyboard and such) but a PC/Mac costing 1000€ will last easily 10+ years.

I don't think they'll stop supporting the SE yet since Apple still sold it until end of 2018. That would give people that bought it at the end of its lifecycle less than 3 years of updates. I think they'll drop it in 2023, earliest.

What about HomePod and Apple TV HD, they both run a variant of iOS (audio/tvOS), have A8 and are both still for sale.

again another person believing SE should be dropped because of its tiny screen and resolution while believing 6S should get iOS 15

FFS, OG SE performs better than 6S/6S+/5th Gen iPad because of the screen size, less pixels for the A9 to handle, smaller resolution etc etc

you seem to forget the first two bits of OS Comaptiability. The CPU and RAM.

don’t forget 5s and 6/6+ didn’t get iOS 13 and they had a 4/4.7/5.5 inch screen so ZERO to do with the screen size
Even Apple designed iOS to look crap on the 4" screen. I'm not saying the hardware can't cope, but when even the OS doesn't really provide a good experience, it's time to retire the device. My wife was still using a 5S until 3 years ago and even then iOS was badly designed for a 4" screen.

Hopefully that is the case, although the history of that has been fairly short so far.
Has it? Look at MacOS as well. Apple still do security updates for OS before Big Sur, and even pre-Catalina, including updates to those versions of Safari, which keeps my 2012 MacBook Pro relatively secure.

I am probably going to continue using my iPhone 6S+ one more year and upgrade when the iPhone 13 (iPhone 12S). The iPhone 6S+ still functions quite well running iOS 14.

macOS has pretty much always been like that, but it's different in comparison to iOS.

Never said it would.... Cutting off support suggests that Apple is making a decision based on economics rather than user experience. But, yes, the phones are completely functional otherwise.
You say 'cutting off support', but my 5S was still getting updates to iOS12 late last year.

I wish they could continue to support it. Anyway I'll still keep my 6S as it's completely still usable, no plan to upgrade yet. It does what I need it to do, its not slow and I hope Apple keeps it that way.

Really, the reason I moved to a 12 mini was that the SE1 didn't seem to be able to do CarPlay and stream music to the car at the same time. The SE was actually having problems streaming audio over cellular before then, but it really got to be annoying. iOS devices always prioritized audio playback over everything else until maybe 12/13. Oh well.

The 12 mini is nice, it's been a few years since my old upgrade cycle. Plus the camera is great.

People need to learn to upgrade. My mom just upgraded from the iPad Mini (1) to the iPad Mini (5) because the majority of apps will no longer run on IOS 9.x. IOS 14.x will be supported for years to come so if people do not want to upgrade they can still keep their devices and run the apps for years to come.

again it doesn’t matter if the OS is poorly designed on the SE or not it doesn’t mean that it should only go

Anf you can’t really retire the SE because of its 4 inch screen when 7th Gen Touch has a 4 inch screen and has the A10

The 6s and the SE have the same internal hardware. So why would Apple still support the SE but drop the 6s? It's like the iPhone 5 and 5c. Same hardware inside, and got dropped at the same time. And from history, Apple doesn't mind dropping 2 generations of hardware all at once if they wanted to (eg. 5s and 6 both got dropped on iOS 13).

We just have to drill it into our noggins that we get 1000 good days with your rental, errr.... purchase of your device. Anything after that is just pan drippings.
Hmm, it's not like the 6s iPhones will suddenly combust and stop working once iOS15 drops. It would still perform as a phone as it is now.

I'm guessing we'll see sweet deals on the 12 mini soon (from carriers, resellers). It's not much bigger than the original SE.
Yeah, at least there is a better option now with the mini compared to before. I was close to getting the mini but the SE still works really well for me and I love the design, touchID, home button, flush back, etc.

Hope, Apple keeps supporting 6S for one more cycle. I am ok long as Apps keep running on IOS 14 after they are upgraded to run on newer IOS. No one wants to upgrade phone because it is perfectly working but the Apps need newer OS that is not supported on your phone.

Amazes me how people think Apple should provide updates for eternity. I don't know of any competitor that provides support and updates for half as long as Apple, let alone on a budget device like the SE.

Besides, the device still works perfectly fine, you just won't get new features or upgrades. This whole planned obsolescence thing is BS from people that don't understand progress and technology.
I actually believe that they should support it for 10 years minimum.

Five years of actual upgrades. (After the last day it was sold by any authorized retailer)

And then five years of only security updates and Genius style support. (For 10 years of total support from the last day sold)

***
People who write software should have the same 10 year minimum support requirement.
