I wasn't that excited, nor disappointed. So removing the extension was immediate. No subscription at this point.
But I also realize that subscription won't go away. Many devs will go this way to survive I guess.
It doesn't mean I will pay gladly to all of them, hell no!
But my time is valuable as well - so it all depends on what I really can receive from a subscription. How much it saves me.
I'm less an opponent today than what I was. But I will chose my subscriptions carefully.
Most definitely don't see a reason to subscribe to 1Password today. Local vault is fine with me. Ask me in a year...
I tried for a time to 'survive' with PhraseExpress when TextExpander went subscription before I gave in.
Hope it doesn't come to a struggle to not subscribe to 1Password - more other app options as well to check out - time will tell.
Yeah, I'm still opposed to subscription-only model for 1Password. It's fine if they have both standalone licenses or subscription.
As for text expansion tool, I went with TypeIt4Me precisely because TextExpander is subscription only. TypeIt4Me is OK, but I wish it had a Windows counterpart. I use something else on Windows and have copied over all my snippets to the Windows application that I use. I hardly ever need to update those snippets, so this manual process is ok.
