I wasn't that excited, nor disappointed. So removing the extension was immediate. No subscription at this point.

But I also realize that subscription won't go away. Many devs will go this way to survive I guess.
It doesn't mean I will pay gladly to all of them, hell no!
But my time is valuable as well - so it all depends on what I really can receive from a subscription. How much it saves me.

I'm less an opponent today than what I was. But I will chose my subscriptions carefully.
Most definitely don't see a reason to subscribe to 1Password today. Local vault is fine with me. Ask me in a year...
I tried for a time to 'survive' with PhraseExpress when TextExpander went subscription before I gave in.
Hope it doesn't come to a struggle to not subscribe to 1Password - more other app options as well to check out - time will tell.

Yeah, I'm still opposed to subscription-only model for 1Password. It's fine if they have both standalone licenses or subscription.

As for text expansion tool, I went with TypeIt4Me precisely because TextExpander is subscription only. TypeIt4Me is OK, but I wish it had a Windows counterpart. I use something else on Windows and have copied over all my snippets to the Windows application that I use. I hardly ever need to update those snippets, so this manual process is ok.

You can eliminate most of the issues with Safari (and poor computer performance in general) by simply NOT using the Google search engine or any Google apps - like Gmail! It easy to switch your default search to any of several alternatives.

Anyone who still has Google as their default search engine are the same people who actually wanted Adobe Flash installed on their computers!

How do you manage to block YouTube ads with 1Blocker? I am still seeing ads prior to a video starting.
You have to enable the iOS 15 extension like this.

I think I checked up TypeIt4Me as much as I could without buying it. I'm really fine with TexExpander now. I play around a lot with it, and I add new snippets all the time. It's really smooth.
So it's worth it for me at the moment.

So to be clear, when you start a video on YouTube, or any video, it’s not prefaced with an ad? The video immediately starts?
Yes. I haven’t had a youtube ad since enabling the extension. Did you pay for the premium? I believe the free version only allows basic ad blocking.

I wish. Apple won’t let them. They went so far as to specifically break tor and magnet links so you can’t even cut and past them.but if we are dreaming, I’d prefer a deluge link passer.
You can do this with a shortcut on iOS - if you run some JavaScript on the page to detect the magnet link you can then send that directly to transmission by sending a POST request.

Come on. The extensions for Safari are just an utter joke.
Unfortunately so. Probably because nobody really tries to offer anything that makes using the browser that much better.

like I don’t really see the need to use 1pAssword when the app already interfaces with sites or native iOS passwords.

I've been using extensions in Safari on iOS for years (such a Wipr), how is this new?
Same for me with better.fyi

And as far as I know those Apps (Wipr and better.fyi) do not have access to all your data/passwords like Noir, stopthemadness, Amplosion and others are doing.... (Yes they say, they don't read data - but if they want, they can read ALL your data! Nobody knows)

Can anyone tell me how dark reader or noir deals with a site which already has a dark mode? Will it ignore the website and let it load as is, or will it try to change it regardless?

I'm using Noir on my iPad right now and I don't see any difference when accessing macrumors or appleinsider. they look just like they did before.
But now I can have The Loop in Dark Mode 😳 (and Instagram as well 😳😳)

Yeah, I just downloaded Noir myself tbh. Its only a few quid, rather than waiting to see if anyone responded here I just bought it. Works great!
