it was exactly the same and I tried turning the feature off and on to see and also removing AirPods and it didn't cut it at all and trust me it was loud drilling

I don't think you understand what it is.

And it does work - i've got both sets of Pros and transparency mode is much better now - though it's not something I ever really use.

If this works well for loud concerts, it will be amazing! It will also be the first time I wish they were available in a color other than bright white; I want to save my hearing but also don't want to look like the weird person wearing headphones at a concert.

your not understanding a loud drilling and road works should cut the sound to normal level but its the same like wearing then and with them on with it on, it doesn't work

When you reckon Apple will release iOS 16.1? I have the beta on my iPhone right now, and my iPhone 14 Pro is coming in about two weeks, and I need to migrate, preferably without having to install a beta on the new iPhone.

If you want to save your hearing you should buy a pair of $20ish high-fidelity earplugs. They’ll do a way better job protecting your ears than AirPods.

How long does a full charge last on the original AirPods? I'm tempted to buy them as a backup to my Pros.

To be honest, these original C$300+ AirPod Pro better get some upgrades from software level, since this is not a hardware limitation.
Sheesh…they’re 3 years old and got spatial audio as an upgrade. I’m glad they’re doing this but I don’t feel “entitled” to it. Also, you have no idea if this is a hardware limitation or not.

Does it work like Sonys? Their adaptive solution is pretty cool. It automatically notices when you are walking outside and makes sure you still hear things like traffic while it completely kills any noise when you are sitting and not moving

My recollection from the keynote where they were introduced is that they continuously sample ambient noise, hundreds of times per second. If ambient sounds exceed a certain threshold, they dial back the volume. What I’m not certain is whether they can do this selectively (reducing only the jackhammer, for instance, but leaving voices and other “normal” sounds alone) or if all sounds are proportionately reduced. Basically chopping the top off of waveform in excess of XX dB.

I may be doing that soon. I have a few concerts coming up and was going to shop around for them this weekend. If you have a reco, I'm ... all ears. 🥁 🥁 💥

hopefully this means that AirPods Max will get adaptive transparency as well
AirPods Pro already have several more transparency accommodations than AirPods Max. AirPods Max have no transparency customizations while the pros transparency mode can be tuned for audiograms. AirPods Max are also missing conversation boost.

Apple is like a crack dealer. They will give you a taste of blue magic adaptive transparency for free, then will release the best ever adaptive transparency pro (only available on the H2 chip).💉💉

No it doesn't. You either have transparency mode on, active noise cancelling on, or both off. I usually go for both off unless I really need some background noise drowning out. I don't think i've ever used transparency mode.

Transparency mode is very useful for when you’re using the Pro as a headset. It makes hearing your own voice much more natural. There are other reasons to use the transparency mode including when you‘re walking on a busy street. I imagine adaptive transparency mode for that situation would be more appropriate.

I imagine it is good as a headset, not something i'd ever use AirPods for though.

The problem with the "being aware of your surroundings" thing is if music is playing you can't hear anything any of the 3 modes anyway. If i'm listening to a podcast or an audiobook and I need to hear stuff around me, maybe it'd be useful, I've just never needed to.
