After a hard reset on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, that abnormal mail background usage seems like it's subsided thank goodness.

EDIT: No it's back again...wtf

Somehow the constant use of location services has reduced by itself since yesterday.

Another fix for it that I’ve found is setting the weather app’s location access to ‘while using the app’ instead of ‘while using the app or widgets’. I’ve found that the weather does still update periodically on the widget and for the most part stays accurate while not using the location almost all time time.

Is anyone experiencing notifications showing blank on lock screen randomly since 16.2?
yep. Or today I was in the mail app and I got a text message and the phone beeped, but the message didn't show on the top of the screen like it usually does.

another perhaps related issue: Wife gets a few text messages from businesses and she wants to keep them coming but she doesn't want them to make a sound. They make a sound even though she has filter unknown contacts on, they aren't in her contacts and they show up in the unknown folder in Messages.

I have a question regarding wallpaper and the lock screen. Is it possible to just change the wallpaper but leave the text and widgets the same? What I mean is I've been trying out different wallpapers but it would always take me to a new lock/home screen, where I would need to just put in the widgets again. What I want is on the current lock/home screen just changing the wallpaper. Is there a way to do that on IOS 16 or did Apple take it away. I like the idea of different home screens for different moods, but it seems like Apple made it slightly harder to customize (or more convoluted).

Last evening the 14 Pro Max on ios 16.2 faced the black screen of death. Searched online and tried the Volume up followed by Volume down and then the Power button to force restart. It took a good 50 odd tries of varying power button presses to force restart with success. 2 restarts in between were short lived. The battery was below 20 %. I have killed all open apps and turned off 5G to begin with. Let's see how it goes.

Did you plug it in to let it charge a bit. Strange behavior is seen sometimes when your battery drops below 20% and it goes into low power mode. You didn’t mention how low it actually was. What you happen to be running can cause strange behavior at low power sometimes.

Yes, the first step was to charge it, thinking it went dead due to battery discharge. After say 15-20 minutes of nothing, then the research started. In one short lived boot, it was at 23%.

I’m really hoping for an iOS 12 type update for iOS 17. Here’s a running list of bugs I experience in iOS 16, most of which I experience regularly.

  • Location arrow stays active for a deleted app until phone is restarted
  • Lock Screen notifications show with unrounded corners for a second sometimes
  • Big delay in AOD showing (phone will freeze on current screen, dim it, then finally switch to Lock Screen view)
  • AirPods case always stays in batteries widget with 0% battery
  • Keyboard won’t show when you’re in a typing field sometimes
  • Screen time won’t sync across my devices, sometimes not at all, sometimes only with one other device instead of two
  • I deleted bookmarks in safari but they’re still showing up in bookmarks on other devices
  • Dynamic Island buttons were compressed and couldn’t select any of them while on a call
  • Books app not remembering my place
  • Apple Music randomly stops playing song. Can’t just press play while wearing AirPods or Apple Watch, must open music app and mess with it to get it to resume
  • AirPods Max jump in volume when resuming audio after getting a call (often) or taking them off (sometimes). When you lower the volume, it goes very quiet because it lowers your volume from where it was supposed to be, not where it’s jumped to

One of the more annoying bug I see is tables in Notes. For some reason, even though I have my language set to English, Notes frequently backspaces after I type a character as if I’m using a right to left language. So I end up typing things like “olleh”. That started in 16.2.

I gave up on Screen Time as it completely fails if I turn it on on more than 2 devices.

I’ve just tried adding a table and adding columns and rows, and typing into multiple different cells, and encountered no issues; the words are showing as expected. This on both my iPhone and iPad. (Language: English UK.)

It's incomprehensible to me that after all this time, Apple just cannot get this to work. They advertise all of these headline features each year, they don't work, and they don't seem to put any effort into getting them working. They bring new meaning to the word inept.

It doesn’t always happen, but it happens frequently enough that I find it hard to type in table with US English.

16.2.1 tomorrow? Please? God are you listening?

As if the stuttering and lag and HomeKit issues weren’t bad enough, now practically every video app has stopped working. YouTube, HBO, Amazon prime… nothing plays videos. They’ve been broken for 4 days already.

I discovered a weird bug with the new Music screen while playing tunes over the weekend - if I have the expanded music window open on the lock screen and then swipe up to go home, the wallpaper I have set becomes super squished and pixelated.

This does not happen when I tap and use the smaller version of the Music app on the lock screen.

Anyone else experiencing this? This is occurring when using playing locally stored media files (purchased and ripped) via Apple Music (no subscription).

For me 16.2 on the 14PM has been pretty bad overall compared to 16.1.2
Worse battery life, laggy animations, poor camera performance, lag in haptic feedback in the keyboard.

Anyone else having a bug where notifications - namely messages & mail is delivered without any sound? I’ve also had a phone call with the phone ringing right in front of me with no sound.

Other than this, on my end, tap to wake doesn’t work occasionally & screen time never loads (it loads once you restart the phone, but fails again eventually).

Anyone else having issues with Focus Modes? I have one set up for sleep, I also get the reminder from the health app at mid night but my "sleep" mode does not automatically turn on.

I have another two focus modes (one for sunrise and another one for sunset) but recently, the one that is supposed to automatically turn on upon sunrise, does not (the previous one for sunset remains activated).

I have no idea why, but every day or so, I get bugged to create an automation for various focuses. I doesn’t matter if I respond to enable it or not, I get bugged again later to do so, even if that automation already exists.

Anyone know how to get it to stop bugging me?

I’ve had the issue with the phone call not ringing in front of me a few times. Never used focus mode and it wasn’t in silent mode.

Would you recommend holding off on buying new HomePod minis due to the broken HomeKit stuff in 16.2?

I updated my iPhone, Apple TV, and HomePod mini as soon as 16.2 was released, so all was fine for me, but I see so many people having issues with their Home devices on 16.2 that I’m wondering if I should hold off on buying the new HomePod minis until this gets sorted out.

Thanks.
