Pretty sure there is a location bug in 16.2

I uninstalled an app and it still came up as constantly using location…

My theory is some location data or setting is broken and causing a loop or non/existent app triggering something (could even be some system app that was changed)

I seem to have fixed my constant “system” location pings by disabling location, resetting Location and Privacy, restarting phone, enabling location, and re-toggling all the location settings I don’t want on

Will see if it improves battery… not seen the location arrow for a while when before it was appearing every few minutes

Did this method work for you?

A little bit better, but still getting a lot of random GPS

Think I’ll try disabling Find my iPhone and doing an iCloud logout with phone restart. This fixed similar issues before for me

I tried your suggestion but I’m still getting constant location services and find my always showing on battery usage.. I hope next update fixes this

I have an iphone SE3 and when I turn the camera I see the application animation and I still have not restarted the system.o_O

When are we expecting 16.2.1? My 14 Pro Max is suddenly acting incredibly buggy. Almost everything is lagging or stuttering. Animations that I would expect to be smooth and fluid thanks to the ProMotion display, like swiping into the app switcher, or pulling down my Notification Center, are extremely choppy and look worse than they did on my old iPhone!

Unfortunately likely not before the second week in January which is annoying considering Home is broken in iOS 16.2.

There’s a reason you don’t push out a major update right before your entire company goes on vacation for the holidays. The company I work for actually has a release freeze for the entire second half of December into early January for this very reason. Apple for some reason always pushes out a major release right before Christmas.

The 13th is hardly right before Christmas.

It is when it takes time to fix bugs in release software. There’s major bugs in the 16.2 release which aren’t likely being worked till next year.

Apple completely controls the release schedule. Historically they used to release the .3 release the first week of December, which was normal,y fairly stable.

The past few years iOS has been so buggy on release that they can’t even get a .2 out by mid-December. After that, nothing gets released to mid to late January.

When leaving work I’ve been able to say “Siri, take me home” and then Maps sets a course for my home. 16.2 has broken this function. Now I’m directed to a location a few miles away from my home. Quite repeatable. I did a couple of Reset All’s. I also deleted and reentered my address in Contacts, followed by a restart or two. No change. Waiting for the fix!

Low Power Mode seems to really help reduce Location usage. Battery life actually very good again

While thats good, we are only dealing with fixing the symptom and not the underlying problem.

Could probably switch off all Location services, 5G, Promotion, AOD but that would defeat the purpose of buying the latest flagship phone.

16.2 had made battery life terrible.

I agree. I see all these posts with people turning off so many features and functions, many related to Location services, but also background app refresh and various other features. They do it apparently because of obsessing over tracking concerns or some battery issues. I always wonder why they spend so much money on these devices when they turn most of the primary features off. I have practically every location toggle turned on, several weather apps which I want to have my location to be able to see conditions where I actually am, only a couple such as for the Twitter app do I turn off because those apps don’t need my location to function the way I want to use them. I don’t think that location arrow icon has turned off on my devices in years. Background app refresh is turned on for all apps. Essentially I have very little turned off and have outstanding battery life in 16.2 and almost all other previous versions. The only battery issues I ever have had in 15 years of of iOS devices was due to one or two specific apps that were either deleted or received an update to them that fixed the issue.

Only once has a software update itself caused a degradation in battery life and that was on one of the first Apple Watches. It's been so long I don’t remember which one it was but the update crippled the battery immediately. Fortunately I’ve not experienced anything like that again. I hope I haven’t jinxed myself and I realize I’m using newer devices, iPhone 14 Pro Max currently, but my previous experience leads me to believe I shouldn't have to worry about battery life going forward. Fingers crossed!

16.2 is so frustrating. WhatsApp and Telegram act weird. To get the auth sms always requires twice try, WhatsApp only call works. This bug was on early 16 and never fixed. Ehh it’s a 3party apps problems okay but come on..
I’ve had a few problems with some apps just crashing at random, the most frustrating was the App Store, it just gave up so many times after using it for a few minutes. Also the phone it self sometimes doesn’t always even feel as responsive as a iPhone 13 Pro Max should 😔

There’s a really annoying bug that got introduced in Notes in 16.2. I have a table in a note and frequently when I type in the table, it backspaces after every character I type such that I end up with words backwards. This happens on both my iPad and iPhone and didn’t happen until 16.2.

Disabling the Mobile Network Search option seems to help battery, and is not needed for anything beyond Apple diagnostics

Think called Cell Network Search in other regions

Enabling plane mode helps with battery too (even if enable wifi + bt)

I am having freaking „Find My“ running throughout the night, loosing 10% while I sleep AGAIN. This seems to happen to me after every other iOS release. It even happens on my iPad, which has find my and location services as a whole completely off (the device does not leave the house) yet it shows Find My running in the battery stats

The trick that worked for me re Location Services running all the time was to switch off Spotlight location service first. Then in iCloud turn off find my completely. Then in iCloud again turn off Contact syncing. Hard reboot and then switch on Find My in iCloud.

I'll try this but what is (or where is) 'Spotlight location service'?

Recently my mail has been excessively running in the background and I haven't the slightest reason why. Background App Refresh is turned off, all things are on manual...already today it's been running 4 hours in the background when it wasn't the day before..

Can’t change my wallpaper. I only get a „loading“ screen when I tap on the gallery icon at the bottom (which doesn’t react to my tap for the first 3+ taps either)
