Now my Apple Watch won't connect to Fitness+ when I go to start a workout. Lord, do I regret this...

EDIT: It worked after restarting the watch.

At this point, I'd definitely say to grab the 16.3 IPSW, and revert to that, and see what you get. That also gets you two avenues to recovery:

  1. restoring directly back to that with the data on your iPhone intact as it currently is; or
  2. (DFU) restoring your iPhone as new, then restore your backup.
That would get you back to your last best working state, prior to anything happening with your phone, as long as you didn't create a new backup after you upgraded to 16.3.1.

BL.

I'm an idiot. Everything was going swimmingly with 16.3.1 on my 13 mini until I just had the wise idea to do an IPSW "update" which ended up soft-bricking my device. Attempting to restore software + backup via iCloud now. Lesson learned: IPSW is not always better 😆

At first I (perhaps like everyone else) just thought—or hoped—I was being dramatic, but no. My phone seemed pretty thoroughly bricked was throwing a 2015 error in Finder whenever I'd try to initiate a restore or update with the IPSW. Funny thing is, when I Googled that error, it said something about iTunes and/or macOS needing to be updated. My MacBook was updated to 13.2.1 yesterday. I really thought I was going to have to make the trek down to the Apple Store for a minute there but after restarting the computer I finally got it to work.

Frankly the worst **** I've had to deal with in a long time as far as any of my Apple kit goes :)
Sorry. I seem to remember we had this conversation before. Oh yeah. We did.

I was going to ask how this update was doing stability wise but it seems like there are quite a few issues.

Mail app running in the background - Reboot my iPhone solved the issue.

I’ve noticed this since iOS 15. Whenever there is an OS upgrade, the mail app runs in the background following the restart after upgrading. Rebooting fixes this issue every time, for me at least.

It finally seemed to right itself without too much additional futzing or installations/updates—my Fitness+ progress is back, my Watch is working with workouts as usual, and my iMessage convos came back. I think part of the reason I was having issues was that I had Lockdown Mode enabled; it smoothed out after disabling that. Now that things are back to a normal baseline I think I’ll switch it back on. :)

Seems obvious in hindsight but hey. Now we know. Sorry to bother everyone with my vitriolic fumigations.

IS anyone having problems with the Weather app not showing a complete overlay of precipitation on the map when selecting "Next Hour Forecast"? It seems to display one or two of the overlay sections, but not all. If I switch to the 12 Hour Forecast it displays all the precipitation. Texas USA specifically, but doesn't seem to matter where in the world I select.

HomePod 2nd gen shows up as No response 24/7 here now (it‘s updated to 16.3.2 and iPhone etc on latest release also).

I’ve had this on 2 1st gen HomePods and a 1st gen HomePod mini although on the home app it showed the temperature sensors from the mini on the tile but when I pressed it it said no response. Restarted my Wi-Fi and was all okay

It's not that the IPSW/file is better, its the action of reinstalling the iOS that helps your phone have a decreased amount of bugs.

Also, if this persists, OFFLOAD, dont delete, the Mail app or any misbehaving app, then reinstall and you'll be surprised how much that helps/fixes and then you realise its not always just the iOS.

Yes, I've seen this consistently throughout iOS 16. I tap on the precipitation map to bring it up, and there are sections that remain un-rendered. (It's a grid of some sort, some of the grid cells don't get data.) If I pinch out or in, the missing grids are usually, but not always, rendered.

This whole battery health short cut thing… 🤣

The short cut says my phones battery is at 96% health. But my battery settings says 100%.

So, I’d take both with a pinch of salt and when your phone is struggling to hold to charge, then go get a new one fitted or at 89% from the Apple Store with Apple + care. 😉

EDIT: Sh*t that last update turned back on OBC. The cheeky Fs. I have it off. Don’t charge over night, it’s a killer and just charge to 100% then off the charger. Repeat as needed.

EDIT 2: see post 147 for why this happens with the batteries. 👍🏼

GUYS, restarting devices "can" do marvellous things!

It should be the first thing you do be it a router, iPhone, Mac blah blah... before posting oh here. 👍🏼❤️
And your cheeky little IPSW method almost bricked my phone. So I guess maybe I could say the same. ❤️

It did brick mine, for the first time. I let you all know and explained how quick it was to recover from if you have a back up and how important they are, was the moral of the story. Or should have been.

Also not my method, Apples. Just to be clear. Merely a messenger. How you behave with your phone has a massive implication on doing these things 👍🏼

These things happen, its software, doesn't mean I wont still be continuing to use the most effect way of updating/downgrading, IMO, keeping bugs to a low and the health of my phone optimum. ❤️

Your 14 Pro was designed to have a 3200 mAh battery but Apple actually put one with a 3347 mAh capacity in it. Very common and all the iPhones I’ve had were the same.

3221/actual 3347 = 96%
3221/designed 3200= >100%

There is a lag when swiping left to open camera after the phone wakes from AOD. Grrr…

13 ProMax + AWU
Did the update ... ugh?
Also did a reboot and hard reboot

  • Phone now actually shows the 5G+
  • WiFi is slow to load. Getting a max 200MB down (50 up). All other devices (except iPad) are cranking at 500MB+. Tried rebooting the router - no change.
  • The watch will "ding" but nothing is showing on it nor can I tell what triggered it. Nothing showing on the phone either.
  • Not all messages are showing up on the watch. had this issue off and on during the .3 betas.
  • A number of my membership apps are asking to reverify with password instead of FaceID
Other than that it is working okay. Minus the normal bugs.

Yeah I found when the phone had been snoozing for a while, especially in the morning, it took a couple of taps.

Instant now. IP14
I still have this issue since day 1 when I got my 14 PM :( I made a thread about it all the way back in October and this issue is still not fixed for me unfortunately.

Actually, it even seems to be worse since 16.2. Sometimes, I have to tap it more than 5 times, it's super annoying.

My iOs devices battery widgets won't report the case of my AirPods Pro (2nd) Gen after the update anymore. Until I forgot and reconnected the device it continuously and erroneously shown the case at 51%; now it does not show up. The buds do, but not the case.

:7 Is this the Apple Magic everyone is talking about?
