Apple is preparing to release iOS 16.4.1 for the iPhone, according to a source with a proven track record for upcoming software updates. It's unclear when the update will be available, but it will likely be released this week or next week.

Minor updates like iOS 16.4.1 are typically focused on bug fixes and security improvements. Since iOS 16.4 was released last week, some iPhone users complained about having to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords. There was also an issue with data failing to load in the Weather app, but Apple's system status page says that problem has now been resolved.

iOS 16.4.1 would be a stopgap update while iOS 16.5 remains in testing. Apple seeded the first beta of iOS 16.5 last week with a few minor changes, including the addition of a Sports tab in the Apple News app and the ability to start a screen recording with Siri. iOS 16.5 will likely be released to the public at some point in May.

Apple is expected to announce iOS 17 at WWDC 2023, which runs from June 5 through June 9.

There's also a bug with Apples podcast app where downloads aren't automatically removed after 24 hours. Now I have to either remove them manually or force close the app and re open it.

It's June 2023. Humans have been allowed to enter the Steve Jobs theater as Apple has caught up to the rest of the world. Calming classical music plays softly in the theater from Apple's new Classical app. The lights dim as a curtain draws. Suddenly, the screen displays only a few words:
"iOS 17 - No new features. Just bug fixes. Have a nice day!"
Thunderous applause that could be heard for miles.

Imo this is more "server side" issue than of iOS. The app is just getting the data. But it is possible they have changed something in their backend which also needs to be updated to the client.

I'm glad they're going to fix this mess but there are soooo many other things that need to be fixed.
Apple is a mess. Used to be reliable and as people said "just works".
Those days are long gone. Been gone for the last 5 years.
Like anything else “just works” for some and doesn’t “just work” for others. It’s been like that since we got the iPhone 4.

Can’t believe they have to release a whole ass point update to fix the Weather app. Can’t they just update the Weather app binary and then upload the patch to the App Store?
It wont require ios update to fix it, My fiancé is at ios 15.7 and her weather app is also borked right now

I think the issues with the weather app are a separate issue as I have been experiencing these for the last couple of weeks and I have yet to update my iPhone 14 Pro Max to 16.4

Since they introduced the new backend for the weather app, the app performance has been quite buggy and slow to load results. It's nice to have all these new graphs and stats and such, but before the app was much more reliable when they fetched the data from the Weather Channel

The weather app has been glitchy since it launched on all platforms. Large sections of the precipitation radar often fail to load and for a while I would delete previously saved locations only to have them magically return (the latter seems to have been fixed). Hopefully Apple can fix these remaining issues.

Apple doesn’t get, our time has value. When things go thump in the night, we spend time either understanding a new feature or trouble shooting their poor software. Neither of which I need.
