Testing out cellular voice isolation... 🔉👂 seems pretty good so far but I'm just chilling in my room which is rather quiet. I will have to try it out walking next to traffic to really put it through its paces.

If you have to select option like on FaceTime then 99% won’t use it it should be by default

Try playing this video on your HomePod and see if you can isolate the "Good morning" and "People cheering/clapping" parts.

So I guess they’re just gonna ship 16.4 with the Home Controls in Control Center still flashing and glitching, as well as handoff between HomePod & iPhone still being completely broken. Sure, why not.

Anyone who is *also* using the HomePod beta software… can you handoff from a HomePod to the iPhone? Wondering if this feature will work with a HomePod software update.

Indeed they are. And they are also including the bug where the wake up alarm might not show up on the home screen widget unless it's edited.

And before any Apple apologists jump on me, these bugs have existed since last year (the home controls in control centre flashing and glitching bug was introduced IIRC in 16.1!). Absolutely inexcusable that they still exist. Yes I know neither of them are the end of the world nor serious, but it just shows Apples ever increasing lack of care and quality control IMO.

But on a positive, it is very smooth so far.

Classic.

Not a critical bug by any means, but it just looks so sloppy. Wish Apple would take a little more time to address the cosmetic bugs.

What is the difference between downloading and installing via ipws and normal installation?

OTA (over the air) literally is that when updating and installing. OTA patches with new or updated files in the iOS.

IPSW file is a tethered approach using a computer and the downloaded IPSW file. Which does a full installation every time you use one.

I feel, using the IPSW method is a cleaner approach to installing or updating. Bugs can/have crept in, in the past with the OTA patching process and reinstalling the iOS with the IPSW file has shown to clean up quite a few bugs.

So I cut out the middle and save myself some time and go straight in using the IPSW files. But it’s completely up to you. People have had great success and swear by the OTA process. I wish the OTA process was as reliable because I do love it for ease of use. But to many times with myself and friends the IPSW method has been more successful.

Thanks @Banglazed

One question - now for the second time update with ipsw stops and says cannot be updated. I tell the phone, which goes into recovery mode, to update and then it goes thru. Happened to you too? Or maybe its because I am no dev

I’ve got the dev profile on board. And the IPSW file went on smoothly as have all the others for 16.4.

Could be your phone will only let update the public as maybe you don’t have a registered email for dev account.

When your phone rejects the IPSW, that window that opens you can still hold “option” on the install button and reselect the beta 4 IPSW file.

This build came just at the right time. I discovered an insane issue with my devices today. If I send you a iMessage on my iPad, I will not get any iMessages from you on my iPhone again until I send you a iMessage from the iPhone. And yes then I won’t get your message on the iPad. Incredible and very strange. Hope the RC will fix it.

I really want this to be released, because I really want to update my iPad Pro to 16.4, and if it’s easy on the battery life of older devices, on my iPhone 8 as well.

However, I understand that if new bugs are found, it is better to release a second RC, or even waiting for a 16.4.1

I’ll be carefully reading your experiences!
