Yesterday encountered a very nasty under Apple Maps App. 🐜
Did you notice the IPSW file for 16.5 is gone and it’s the same file now as 16.6 beta 1 On the developer page. 🤔So recovery mode, not used this before, just lets you install an iOS with the IPSW file, so downgrade to iOS 16.5 in this case? And no data gets lost?
If you try restoring through recovery mode to 16.5 from 16.6, it'll wipe the device. So recovery mode, not used this before, just lets you install an iOS with the IPSW file, so downgrade to iOS 16.5 in this case? And no data gets lost?

With some older iOS versions, you could update to 16.5 from 16.6 and it would retain data and essentially downgrade but I haven't seen that work in a couple of versions now.

I think something changed recently with iOS 16, it doesn't let you go through with an older IPSW anymore. Your phone will end up stuck in recovery modeYeah that’s why I use the IPSW file, Finder, hold down alt and click on check for update, to then manually select the iOS to downgrade or reinstall, to avoid that from happening.
It’s quick, easy and none of your data is touched, just the iOS reinstalled.

If you’re seeing both Update & Recovery buttons active then you’re in Recovery mode. In DFU mode you can only Restore. So recovery mode, not used this before, just lets you install an iOS with the IPSW file, so downgrade to iOS 16.5 in this case? And no data gets lost?

IPSW+update took me to recovery loop a couple times I tried it lately but it usually ends up with no data loss. You may experience other bugs serious or otherwise or none at all. That’s why I wouldn’t suggest downgrading using this method. But restore in either DFU or Recovery mode and use a backup for the data. Can’t speak for the deliberateness on Apple’s part as @ajay96 mentioned.
Maybe I’m not understanding, but mine plays the last played audio and has done since I can remember. If I was last listening to a podcast and put my ear buds in my ears the next day for example, it plays the podcast from the position I left it. Same if it was music.I’ve said this before. We’re up to nearly the end of iOS 16 and Apple still hasn’t made a way (switched or not) for the stupid thing to remember last played audio!!! 🤬 I just don’t get it. Using ear buds, I listen to audiobooks a lot but if I don’t start it with my phone or very shortly after stopping listening, start again, the stupid thing plays some random Apple Music track AT THE VOLUME I was listening to the audiobook at. 🤦🏻♂️ How hard can this be? What’s the point of not having this be the norm????
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
I found this to be a Wi-Fi issue and I've had it forever. If I toggle Wi-Fi off it goes away. When I toggle Wi-Fi back on it's a crapshoot as far as when it's going to mess up again. I found toggling Wi-Fi off was easier than always using airplane mode Because my regular data plan would just kick in at that point.Looks like the data bug(signal shows connection but no data) is back on 16.6b1. It went away for the last few betas but I'm back to toggling airplane mode several times a day again 😕

Does it happen when your Wi-Fi is off?
Ok gotcha, two diff issues but both regarding data loss. Interesting. I have a 13 mini and regular 13 and both have this problem my 2020 SE does not have the issue. No clue as to why this happens. I've tried everything, every setting tweaked this way or that way and no help. I've just gotten used to having to deal with it.It only happens when I'm away out somewhere and my phone is on mobile data, I never have any issues when I'm on wifi
Yeah it's really weird. I also have a 14 plus, SE 2022, and 8 plus and it only seems to happen on my 14 pro. Granted I don't use them nearly as often as the 14 pro, so I may just not have noticed the issue on them or the 14 pro may have some kind of modem fault. They're all on 16.6b1 so I think I'll use each of them for a couple days to see what happens.Ok gotcha, two diff issues but both regarding data loss. Interesting. Maybe podcasts and books are different.🤷🏻♂️ What if you close the podcast app ( I don’t even have to close the books just wait until the iPhone dumps it from memory), then just hit play on your buds, what comes up? Oh, that’s the key, you need to resume play with the buds not hit play on the phone.Maybe I’m not understanding, but mine plays the last played audio and has done since I can remember. I noticed the same thing on my 14PM. My data connection in general on 16.6 B1 is slower or non-existent in the same places I had 4G or 5G speeds in last few iOS16 versions (UK o2 network here).Looks like the data bug(signal shows connection but no data) is back on 16.6b1. Curious if you’ve tried a DFU. I found instructions on YouTube after reading about it. It is meant to determine whether the phone has a software or hardware issue causing the problem. I had never done one before so was a bit nervous about it but it turned out to be easy and was glad to find my issue is hardware related and nothing can be done, at least I now know. l only use wifi at home and it will randomly drop the connection to the phone. It may happen at any time or not for a day. This in itself would not be a big deal but the Wi-Fi drop happens and the phone data connection doesn’t pick up the slack and the iPhone stills indicates it’s connected! When I move away from my wifi connection it seamlessly trades off to the phone data connection. This is what is supposed to happen but doesn’t occur.Yeah it's really weird. Mine has never worked either. Even a short time after listening to Apple Music/Pandora/Audible/etc., I’ll pick up my phone and the Now Playing widget will either show a grayed out play button with “Not Playing” where my music info should be or the widget will just be gone.Maybe I’m not understanding, but mine plays the last played audio and has done since I can remember.
