Betas are not a progression. Apple can and likely does introduce issues as we move through the summer as they attempt to isolate other issues.

That said, of course there will still be issues once iOS 16 is released. But for the most part, they are not serious issues.

I would consider regularly occurring hard system crashes to be a serious issue, and this has been going on for the entirety of the beta cycle with no indication that it is being fixed. Odds are that the same issue I am speaking of is still present in beta 8, just like it was in 7, and 6, and 5, and 4…

Hard system crashes…for you.

Not to minimize your issue, but as I’ve said time and again here Apple will deal with bugs that are really serious and/or affect lots of people. If the issues you are experiencing are fairly unique to your setup, they are just not going to race to fix that. That may not be the case here but it might be.

I don’t see how it could be unique to me and I wonder how many people are also experiencing the same but maybe don’t even realize it.

There’s nothing particularly special about my iPhone (11 Pro Max) relative to anyone else’s, I browse Safari just like anyone else does. And this is something that never happened on any version of 15.X

Probably it is not unique to you. Maybe even 10,000 others are experiencing it. Out of several million beta testers (a very small number compared to the total install base of over a billion devices) you might be in the 1-2% experiencing this issue. Does that sound like a number that should cause Apple to drop everything to figure out? Sure it’s a big deal for you (rightfully) but Apple does not have infinite resources to devote to running down every last issue like this. Hopefully beta 8 or the release version fixes this for you

People who expect their phone to work flawlessly 100% of the time are setting themselves up for disappointment. We’re on the 16th iteration of this OS; so many features and settings to go wrong.

I have the resetting phone issue and I don’t have a single f*** to give since it happens when I’m sleeping. 99% of the time the phone works perfectly and that’s what I try to illustrate around here.

Best you can do is file feedback and move on. If you can’t, restore to your encrypted backup of iOS 15 and wait out the official release; just don’t expect your bug to be fixed.

Edit: And the whole reason I came in the first place: battery is looking better after letting the phone settle for a full day after the restore.

End of the day that is what it comes down to.
For those with direct impact (work flow or use) bugs, hopefully you file Feedback, get a fix, choose to live with it or move on to something else. For those, beta is NOT your friend.

There is a reason it isn't recommended for your primary device. Yet ... 😂😂😂

I am still on beta 7 and experiencing bad crashes in the middle of doing basically absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Every time there is a new beta I keep thinking we are far along enough and they are close enough to release that this shouldn’t still be a problem. But as someone who joined in the fun on beta 3, I have installed every week and things have not gotten any better.

Why do I get the feeling that I will have a completely up to date 14 Pro in hand in a few weeks on a final version of iOS 16 that will still be experiencing these issues?

Million reasons why this could be happening to you. You got to go through a few motions first before it’s an official bug and just not an install glitch in the software.

Try hard restarts - test
Reinstall the beta as OTA install can be, create new bugs - test

If it’s still present and other people have reported it on here and the web of the same behaviour, chances are it will be picked up by Apple if you’ve reported it.

Normally though, the full new reinstall of all the iOS files does the trick. 👍🏼

I tried to not install OTA however iTunes was providing errors on me trying to update that route. I will never do an OTA update on my main device again

What’s wrong with OTA? Millions of Apple users do OTA all the time and except for a tiny fraction of a percentage of users it works just fine for the rest. And the same could be said for IPSW users as well.
In the end there’s really no documented proof as to one is better than the other. And the issues any particular user is experiencing could be due to that specific config (apps, settings etc) and they’re often resolved with a simple hard reboot or reset of settings.

I already have my preference to install via IPSWs, which I’ve always done every single time for 15 years, on regular iOS releases as well as betas. Never had an issue. One time I decide to install a beta OTA and suddenly there are frequent crashing issues that cannot be resolved throughout 5 cycles of the beta? No thanks!
My 14 Pro’s fresh install of iOS 16 will remain unsullied by any OTA updates.

I read through pretty much every page of all the iOS 16 betas and there maybe a handful of reports among 1000’s of posts and I’m quite positive majority of them did OTA. Yours could just be a big fat coincidence that was caused by something else. Correlation doesn’t mean causation. And that 15 years of IPSW updates seems exaggerated by a factor unless you’re an actual iOS developer and if that’s the case case you wouldn’t be putting too much weight on one process being superior to the other without any evidence.
You claim to have issues through 5 betas when you just OTA’d the first time. If IPSW is a miracle cure then your issue should’ve been resolved as soon as you did the IPSW way or IPSW in subsequent betas which only proves the contrary. FYI I’d been doing OTA since 15.4 betas and the install feels solid. I’ve had new issues when I tried the other way with 15.4 betas so sticking to the more convenient OTAs till my last breath.
But in the end everyone believes what they want to believe and you can’t reason with sentiments.

I am not a developer but it’s been fairly easy (until now, anyway) to get Beta IPSWs from the developer program. Unfortunately the iOS 16 beta IPSWs were nonfunctional.
I’ve been of the understanding for a long time that tethered updates are more reliable, though I’m sure the OTA method has come a long way it doesn’t seem to be 100% bulletproof, and since it only seems to apply deltas I’m not sure it does anything to “refresh” older system files whereas updating by cable seems to completely overwrite the old firmware.
Whatever is causing it, the iOS 16 betas - even the most recent builds that people are calling “stable” - are the most unstable for me iOS has ever been since I bought the original iPhone on launch day.

So I’m on beta and the first few iOS 16s were phenomenal. Somehow noticeably smoother than what was already perfection, great battery as I’ve always had.

For some reason this latest install I’ve done has made my phone choppy and my battery is around 25-30% end of day where it was sometimes 45-55% (minimum!!). Usual day had around 60%+++

What is going on? Hopefully ironed out with final release.

Yeah same here. I’m charging from 20% or so back to a full charge almost 3 times a day.

My watch on the other hand now lasts almost 36 hours on a charge! Total opposite.

System data dropped to a comfy 9 gigs now. 👍🏼🥳
Mine fluctuates between 5 and 30GB. Very annoying. I only have about 40GB on my phone, but showing 70GB because of this. On the iOS16 release now.
