It’s this kind of inconsistency that confuses me.
Apple seems to be fairly conservative with the changes it makes to the iPad home screen. Remember how they didn’t let you add widgets to the home screen at first?

I couldn’t tell you why that is, but it seems to be the case.

Different teams of the same company.

I work for a car manufacturer, this excuse would not fly if one car had better features than the other due to 2 different engineering teams working on them.
Obviously, other companies work differently for example Apple ... I would not be shocked if those two teams are not allowed to know what the other is working on.

They should phone or email the iPadOS team at their homes and ask them what the problem is....

This way they can use it as a brand new feature coming to iPads for iPadOS 17!
That is exactly what they'll do. It'll be an "amazing new feature for the iPad."
This is bananas. They always leave out key iOS features for no reason.
I got into a debate on MR a while back explaining that Apple arbitrarily leaves off features they could implement. Guy was telling me how dumb I am that I don't understand programming or something. Everyone knows Apple leaves off features FOR NO REASON. I still remember how long it took iOS to get copy/paste.

their iPadOS "advances" are not very advanced are they?

but we did get that rad new weather app. 🤡

and I disagree with that "window support". only one window at a time is unobstructed.
Tbf, on desktop OS, you can only have one active foreground window to play with, on single monitor, be it linux, macOS or windows. It makes sense to go that way. iPadOS will never have a terminal after all.

Yikes. I’m gonna have to walk this one back with the daughter. She was excited about doing this with her iPad when I showed them doing it with the iPhone in the keynote and I told her it would work for her iPad which she loves.

Fragmentation because collaboration is hard.
When you have much of hobbyist bring out some thing like this.

And Apple is going to bring this out in year or two and say this is new feature this makes me want to sale my iPad.

If Apple is monopoly now and just going to play catch up and take very long time to play catch up than I’m leaving Apple.

This is billion dollar company not much of Linux hobbyist here. I demand better this not hobbyist OS running on skeleton crew of programmers.

iOS 14 got App Library, iPadOS didn't get it until iPadOS 15

This is my point I made above bringing widgets to iOS and iPadOS should not take 6 to 8 years it should take year at the most.

An always on screen, widgets, themes and multitasking is not revolutionary thing that windows, Linux and Android have been doing it for years.

Apple is just being cheap and not hiring many programmers and working with small number of programmers.

Next it take three years for interactive widgets and 6 years to place apps any where on home screen that Android as done for years.

This Apple BS has to stop and company needs new CEO. Apple use to be wow factor and not any more.

Totally! I remember when they spent hours (okay, maybe not hours... but a very long time) presenting the new widget feature for iOS only to NOT including it for the same year's iPadOS update even though it makes actually way more sense on a huge iPad screen. At this point it's safe to say that they only do that so they have something "special" for next year's WWDC which is super annoying.

I’d be happier Apple left out iOS/IPadOS completely from the iPad Pro line

Shock everyone with a Mac tablet.

It's nonsense like this which has held me off buying Apple for years, just got an iPad and found it can't do CarPlay, it can't work with an Apple Watch, it doesn't have many of the small settings iOS has like battery care, and now won't get new features like this lock screen one.

It has an M1 chip for goodness sake! But Apple don't want people having the best experience on anything other than the most profitable product lines. iOS should have complete parity with iPadOS, it just confuses average consumers.

Why can’t Apple just hire Android devs at this point? You telling me it takes 5 years to bring out widgets to Apple? How pathetic is that. And people have to wait year or two before this makes way to iPadOS.

Apple is billion dollar company and they are just bringing out small updates to iOS and iPadOS every year. And every thing they bringing out now is a copy features that Android as done over 8 years ago how pathetic is that.

If Apple is moving to this kind of update cycle now than Android, Windows and Linux are bringing out more interesting features now well Apple is just playing catch up to 8 plus year old features Android has had.

Apple is billion dollar company and they cannot hire enough programmers to bring out proper features that should been there 8 years ago.

Where is Apple when Steve Job was running the show? Start bringing out a dam proper iOS and iPadOS than these pathetic incremental updates that take 10 years to being out features that android has done in one year 8 plus years ago.

Post dam job applications at your website and hire some programmers and bring out some thing revolutionary than running on skeleton crew of programmers playing catch up.

These Apple keynotes every year now are getting worse every year.

Apple is billion dollar company..

In macOS, one active window yes, but you can also have other unobstructed windows containing data that is completely viewable. It seems the iPad Pro with the M1 cannot perform a feat that I enjoyed on my Commodore 64 w/GEOS

Well this is disappointing that there isn’t any Lock Screen customization options for the iPad OS. I understand that the iPhone is there flagship and the iOS is in essence more important and gets first dibs so to speak, however, this is just laziness on Apple’s part and inconsistent. Maybe I’m wrong but I believe if Jobs was still alive that he would allow the iPad OS getting this among other features at the same time with iOS (If it’s doable). While “new features” are nice and flashy, it’s better if they improved the quality and the consistency of the OS’s... Still wonder why Weather app took 12 years or so to come to iPad OS and the Calculator app… not yet…

iPad Pro can. The app needs to support multiple instances and the screen estate is far smaller than usual but it is possible.
