And still not as advanced compared with 11 years ago.
Yeah, pathetic really.

But the my reality is I'm just over fiddling with interface customization any more.

I'm working hard to dump all this silliness and spend all my time in the real world. I'm not really on the net or devices or any other lipstick coated fake overpriced tech stupidness except a few minutes before bed... mostly to see if there's anything interesting happening in tech. There never is now, not for many years, just huge oligopolies sucking in ever larger amounts of cash from the stupid.

im not going to be going crazy customising my lockscreen. quite happy as it is. i might put a couple widgets but thats it. honestly i think these lockscreens look tacky. reminds me of a crappy jailbreak iphone or an android with ridiculous launcher/mods.

Widgets and Live Activities are welcome improvement…

Customizing fonts and colors? Meh...I cared a little when I was 12 but not anymore.

Thanks. for a feature which has existed on Android for quite some time.

along with 8k video recording which has existed since the Samsung S20 Ultra came out

better late than never to the game

Customization is awesome.

Android allows so much customization. Not so much with APPLE.

Lock down city.

I’ve never understood the appeal of this, really.

Do people really bother sitting down and spend time doing this stuff? Even with the widgets that were introduced last year, it’s easier to just unlock the phone and tap on the app and use it. I have a couple of widgets on the left side of the Home Screen, but I don’t bother using them, apart from checking battery life of my AirPods Pro.

I remember when I wanted my first smartphone; the HTC Hero. It was open source and you could do so much customisation on it. I ended up with an iPhone 3G S on my birthday that year instead. Was I really bothered about open source and customisation? Nah, it just seems cool when you think about it, but too much effort. It’s just making up for the awful OS that Android is and is/was just something to make it stand out. It’s more important to just use the device when it just works & get on with your life. Nothing does that better than Apple products.

The new additions available with the Lock Screen look tacky and un-Apple like. Too much choice can be a bad thing.

Maybe it is only "my" imagination.... but everytime I see the standard new ios16 lock screen I see a butt? 🙈

iOS 13 was a chin heading for a butt:

Yet here you are... guess you need to work a bit harder on dumping all that silliness.

I just rolled back from the beta.
IOS 16 seems like a customization attempt.
I don’t mind but for what it has to offer currently, unless you fancy hot phone is not worth the trouble.

Will make sense there update when final release is available.

The entire customization of the Lock Screen will make more sense maybe when apps will offer some widgets.
Still, I would have loved to have more containers overall.

Hello Apple? how about customization of the top LTE/time area?
I couldn’t care less about how many bars I have or if it’s 5G or LTE, Let me customize that area with more important things.

Had a screen lock where when you plugged your phone in to charge an animated charging gif came on was pretty good, but the developers wanted I think £3 a month for the privilege so binned it.
Would be pretty impressed if that was included as many a time put on charge only for the charger not to be plugged in.

For years, many Apple users systematically complained about the lack of customization under iOS (thus encouraging the jailbreak). I remember that this kind of practice (jailbreaking the iPhone) was particularly popular on iPhone 4. Now that Apple decided to introduce even more extensive customization possibilities (unseen before), people start complaining.

Like, really?

Thanks for this Guide though; I look forward to testing iOS 16 on my phone.

“Can’t innovate anymore, my ass” anyone? 😂
That quote should have been instant regret for him. I think about it every time I see Apple do something ridiculous.

Maybe unpopular opinion but I never liked Schiller. Glad they promoted him out of the way, finally.

The new lock screen customization is great.

It is strange Apple keeps the flashlight and camera at the bottom; too much redundancy...and not good in this case. Swipe right on the lock screen and you get the camera. Flashlight is in Control Centre and I have flashlight set to 3 taps on the back of my iPhone 13 Pro MAx. Apple!...let us also customize the bottom of the lock screen

Wow, this is like the most anti Steve Jobs that Apple has done so far, providing such huge customization options for the iphone lock screen, including the fonts. Jobs would've been livid. 😄
