I’ll be happy to make an exception to actual developers complaining in this thread. If that reduces the complaints by 1% I’d be shocked.

Most of it is from relative newcomers here who are upset that they don’t have new toys to play with.

I’m in my 3rd decade here, and I happen to be a big time dev, so I think I’m not only entitled to prompt new betas every week, I’m also entitled to complain, whine, and moan about it.

It’s not that we are so eagerly waiting betas, is that apple’s iOS 16 is very buggy and we are interested to see the way they intends to take. For example, iOS stock keyboard is terrible, why not fix it? There are still iOS 16 new features listed in June yet to arrive… I don’t know. It’s just a bit strange they are not seeding beta… if you look at last year the timing of official release is almost the same

Unfortunately, Apple don't communicate (very rarely). This has always been their dark side and unless they change, this will inevitably will be their downfall.

You're so right.

I mean—as you point out—this has always been the way they've handled things...and ridden that to becoming a Top 3 market cap company.

...but all of a sudden, it will be their downfall? Explain how.

They undoubtedly need to be more transparent.
"Need"? Or else what?

Going to be surprised if Kelela’s new album (Raven, out 2/10) arrives before the first 16.4 beta. Gotta be honest, though, I’m anticipating this music way more:

Let her rich, sultry timbre release you from your beta prison! :)

Genuine question, please explain why so many of you are so desperate for a new beta? The fact of the matter is going by previous history, it will be riddled with bugs with very few if any issues, long-standing or new, fixed.

I just don't understand this constant need for update, update, update. And then the second an update is released, people are moaning and exclaiming they need another one. I don't get it. Seems like a massive sense of entitlement to me.
I'm desperate for new betas, because that should hopefully mean improvements and being closer to the next public release.

16.3 is almost as bad for me as 16.0 (or 16.0.1 or whatever it was). My swipe up stutter that was seemingly fixed in 16.2 returned in 16.3. The squared off notifications bug that started in 16.2 for me is now worse in 16.3. I keep getting an issue where when I swipe back to home, the screen gets stuck halfway with a blurry home screen. These are just a few examples of my problems with 16.3. I'd rather have 16.2 back.

Oh my there's a whole bunch of drama queens in this thread.
And we kind of love it. The beta community is like our own ****ed up (but entertaining/informative) little club of leechy poseurs—not that I’d know anything about that 🙂—and enthusiastic, heartfelt developers. :)

So you’re on a ProMotion device, I’m assuming? Is it a 14 series?

16.3’s been weirdly solid for me on a 13 mini—feeling like potential peak refinement for the lifecycle of this device. So I guess although I do indeed feel the beta drought it could be worse.

Also I must say I had the same experience over the holiday season during *that* drought: Apple left things pretty gosh-darn solid across my devices with that last 16.2 (?) beta or RC or whatever.

Still a bit ruthless of them, though. Holidays, now this, and then presumably we resume the regularly-scheduled pre-WWDC programming (which needless to say is usually a capital-B bore). But, hey, at least they’ll actually be releasing software.

Yeah, 14 Pro Max. Flagship product and can't get their **** together...

Well hopefully you’ll be able to say the same as me by this time next year ;)

…But, by the sound of it, you’ll probably be on a buggy and unstable iPhone 15 Pro...or an S24 😶

Need a mod to clean up all the nonsense in here.

I think the issue that most should agree on is that the communication is so poor with Apple’s beta program. For the Microsoft Beta program, they have a weekly update cycle and will post on their blog if there’s a dealbreaker bug preventing them from pushing an update. If Apple clearly laid out their beta schedule, there’d be no reason for speculation. Developers are paying a fee to Apple and have to allocate their own resources to testing new software, so they should absolutely be entitled to some communication at minimum.
- Apple

- Being transparent

Pick one

It's a common day for beta releases, but public releases.. not so much.
Nope. You got it backwards. Actual releases are very common on Thursday and betas are toward the first of the week (Tues/Wed).

[edit]
Actually there have also been several RC and betas also released on Thursday as well but mostly on Tues and Wed. Either way Thursday is a common day for iOS so perhaps we will get something today.
