Another change with this iOS/IPadOS 16.4 beta 1
Beginning with iOS & iPadOS 16.4 beta, members of the Apple Developer Program will see a new option to enable developer betas directly from Software Update in Settings. This new option will be automatically enabled on devices already enrolled in the program that update to the latest beta release. Your iPhone or iPad must be signed in with the same Apple ID you used to enroll in the Apple Developer Program in order to see this option in Settings. In future iOS and iPadOS releases, this new setting will be the way to enable developer betas and configuration profiles will no longer grant access.

uh oh this means no more using online configuration profiles to join the developer beta program.... either pony up $99/year for a developer account or wait for public beta releases.
Only for those iOS/IPadOS, not MacOS 13.3. Depending on what involved with iOS/IPadOS 17, Apple is likely to see more developer accounts. ;)

With the change in developer beta access, I wonder what will happen to the beta ipsw files. If there are still links for download, the only thing that will limit is the access to the OTA. On the other hand, this might mean that the public betas will start being released on the same day as the developer betas from the first one.

Interesting that you can enroll in betas without a profile now. I imagine they're gearing up to ditch profiles completely soon to prevent piracy of their beta software. Don't be surprised if you have to be signed into a developer account on your device to install iOS 17 beta 1.

You’ll need to be signed into your developer account beginning with Beta 2 of 16.4 apparently.

If only you knew. You saw my post the other day about my new iPhone, but guess what I could not get. The beta profile. You can’t get the profile when there is no beta. So I had to wait (impatiently) and download the profile after the beta came out. Then I could download the beta. I know people think that we are crazy, but I am sure glad that is over! 😂😂👍💯

If the rumours of the new bigger screen air for April are true I’m guessing that’s when 16.4 will drop.
