Apple isn't interested in funny names. If anything the name carries some specific fond memories of the lifestyle around the name. Ventura because of the local way of life, restaurants and the beach. The names are from a list they all reserved for this type of usage. Monterey, and Big Sur would immediately reflect their noted place on the coast and many memories. Lots of managers been to these places many times. Tiburon might be special this year, it's like a unique area in north SF Bay. Sonoma also. But Diablo seems more appropriate for its ability to see forever on top of the mountain.

We agree mostly, however, Apple has been big on humor for as long as I remember, unlike some of the cantankerous “get off mah lawn” sort of souls who inhabit our spaces. Humor is part of life, has been part of Apple, and we enjoy it here as well, and a humorless Negative Nadine isn’t the gatekeeper of what’s funny or not, or what’s appropriate. What a boring place this would be if we were all serious, all of the time, friend.

I like Diablo, Napa is another, but Diablo stirs our souls for many reasons, it worked for Lamborghini. 🐂

Here is an example that shows how funny Apple as a corporation can be, I’d expect most humor-less people to be users of Android🤷🏻‍♂️.

The name "m. de diablo" signifying an Indian rancheria first appeared on an 1824 map created by Father Narciso Duran. The English expedition of Edward Beechey in 1826 mapped the Bay and called the mountain "Sierra Bolbones". When Salvio Pacheco petitioned for and received his Concord area grant in 1834, he named his rancho Monte del Diablo. Has nothing to do with what you are thinking. Even the people that live close to it don't associate anything like that way of thinking.

Perhaps not. But to the Spanish speaking world outside of California, the word literally means Devil. From the Latin diabolus. Do you think Filipino or Chilean customers are going to think “Oh that name refers some obscure mountain in California”? Nope. They’re going to say “wow. I can’t believe Apple named it’s operating system after Satan”. Apple’s crack marketing department is a little smarter than that.

God willing that won’t happen. This world has enough Satan crap. It’s done. It’s over. Satan is dead, and **** Nietzsche :)

Nevermind that the game Diablo was released back in 2005 and has not caused any international strife from millions of players from around the world. Its in its 4th game iteration, and is marketed to play on Xbox, PS5, PCs on its latest with many more to play it some more. Typical number of players ~ 4 million online. So if Activation/Blizzard still hasn't been struck down only bought by MS, I don't think Apple would loose any sleep at all. As for our theme out here on the west coast here you go! He was a late night host for KCRA Sacramento as well as KUTV Oakland. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Wilkins :p

Wilkins' fans include actor Tom Hanks and Bay Area filmmaker George Lucas, who watched the Sacramento programs as a youth in Modesto

And that is a video game…anyway, I reckon people who have any fixation on that name need to take a good long look in the spiritual mirror

Dang! Just re-watched the video. Craig is so smooth. 10/10 high level presentation!

Oh, HELL no. Sorry, but forced positivity, forced tolerance, and general political correctness (or, the feminization/decay of the cultural mind) are cancers upon this earth. And “people” who rely on them are without humor, practically without soul.

Happy beta 3 day everybody!!!

We don’t know what the above comment means, but it sounds pretty Satan-y..😱

I think the gaming industry though has a lot more width for creative scope on names but Apple, a brand that is to be taken more seriously, can’t afford to start naming an operating system after anything remotely perceived as having negative connotations. Just my thought.

I think it would be hilarious and they should do it just for that reason alone. But realistically I’ve always liked Shasta, surprised they haven’t used it yet. Others that would be good are Death Valley, Eureka, Santa Cruz, Tahoe, Grapevine, Montecito, Malibu, Venice, etc.

There’s a whole lot of interesting ones they could use too, California has a lot of cool city names to choose from.

Some of these would be funny, Zzyzx, Trona, Bakersfield, Compton, Ballarat, Fresno.
If it should be Montecito I'm sure a particular couple would say it was given as a nod to them 😉

Fingers crossed for later!!

Originally I thought it was 4 betas, now I see it only 3 betas. If next week is the RC and public the 8th. Apple can still delay the first 16.6 beta to same week of May 16th, and follow same schedule, with 16.6 wrapping up close to July and then the PB tester seeds start up on what’s next. Take note whether PB is not a day later of beta 3 for 16.5. If same day not far to travel as they say.

If we are comparing the very few purchasers of a 6-figure car and video game players (playing a game about "diablo") to the hundreds of thousands of right wing christian old people out there who would have a serious meltdown if the company they were using (even if the millions using the phone without that software name) had a release called "Diablo", you don't know the United States too well... :p

"Apple onbviously supports the devil and are eating babies..." would be a headline that would not surprise me at all.....😇
