I was busy this morning, so did not have a chance to weigh in on the 16.6 beta release today vs next week. I would have leaned mostly on Monday/Tuesday but would have hedged somewhat with maybe a 30-40% chance of today given that the 16.5 RC shenanigans probably set them back a few days. Given that this is Developer only, a Friday release should not be problematic.

This thread is usually inhabited by avid beta users. So for them/us, it will be in 2 1/2 weeks.
Heh. True :). I no longer beta test so I'll only use the general release version.

My first involvement with Apple beta testing was over a decade ago (even longer!) when joining the beta testing was very secretive and only open to some. I wasn't a developer; never have been. I've forgotten how I got invited but I wasn't looking for it. It was fun beta testing then but I've moved on to other things :)

this seems really early for Beta 1. Ios 16.6 will be ready in like 2 weeks, since it is a small release then.

Early as compared to what, exactly?

My working theory is that iOS 16.5 was scheduled for release this past Monday or Tuesday. Had that occurred, Apple likely would have released 16.6 b1 on Tuesday or Wednesday. So it’s probably late, not early.

Moreover, we have no idea how long Apple intends to test 16.6. They may intend to do the usual 4 or 5 betas but don’t care if a sizable portion of the beta testing community jumps ship when they release the first iOS 17 beta.

I'm guessing 3 betas for 16.6 and we will already get 16.6 beta 2 next week. that means basically by mid June we could see the RC

Let’s go 16.6!!
Before iOS 16.6. Do you want to email Craig Federighi and let him know that @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗️ finally received a software update for Apple Polishing Cloth? 🫥

Seeing that Apple is no longer as rigid in the days and times of release as before, do you think that the public beta of iOS 17 can arrive earlier this year?

Don’t confuse releasing on a Wednesday vs a Tuesday with making sure that the major software release is sufficiently well along that public beta users won’t have serious issues.

Every year, banking apps take several weeks to over a month to update their apps to allow the new IOS to access them. Technically, that’s on the banks as it’s their security code that say, in effect “we don’t recognize a new iOS major release” and won’t launch the app. Apple doesn’t want a bunch of public beta testers coming on board and then squealing all over the place that the beta is preventing them from using their banking apps.

Nor does Apple want to risk that there really is something in the beta that will cause issues for the casual beta user. That then results in a lot of support calls they don’t need.

Bottom line: expect the public beta around the end of June or early July, just like every other year.

My banking apps was crashing when i installed IOS 16 public beta 1, is this issue fixed in ios 16 public beta 2. I seriously want to hands on ios 16 but cant do with this bug. Can you tell me is this issue fixed in public beta 2
You can see last year they weren't even ready after a month.
Still you think that Apple Card would be fully functional June 5th as that is Apple's own in-house payment app? Guess we'll see in 16 days. ;)

I agree that some apps, especially those of the bank, in the new versions of the system may fail. However, my bank's application, in the last three years, has had no problem working since the first developer beta. By this I mean that it cannot be said that since the first beta of iOS 17, all bank apps no longer work to justify a possible early release of the public beta. That it happens with some bank, does not mean that it happens in all.
I cross my fingers that this year the good run continues and the app continues to work in the betas of iOS 17 hehe

Except it’s not Apple’s in house payment app. It’s Apple branded but it’s operated by Goldman Sachs.

Personally I am just fine with banking apps taking their time. That’s about the last thing I want to have an unknown security vulnerability etc.
