Edit: If it doesn’t release today that will be the longest time on beta 3 since iOS 7

But last year the same thing happened but on Beta 2. I think the key is when does Beta 4 land relative to the WWDC keynote. I suspect we’ll land at exactly the same place as last year: about 7 weeks.

Well, that certainly lends some possible credence to the “iOS 15.6 caused the iOS 16 b 4 delay” theory. We’ll see if 16b4 comes out later today or tomorrow. If so, then the delay theory would appear correct. If it comes out next week, then no.

EDIT: Nevermind.

Gotta have those generic pre-written articles on-hand ready to post so they can earn that ad revenue when every single beta comes out.

Sort of. They frequently get this info ahead of time from Apple under an embargo. That’s how they’re able to list features in articles that post even before anyone could possibly download the new beta and check it out.

The question (to which we will know the answer shortly): is if it is an embargo, is the embargo expiring at 1pm PDT or tomorrow or next week?

I’m not even going to hazard a guess.

There's zero chance that 9to5Mac or MacRumors get information from Apple under embargo. The only way these sites may have any insider info is leakers.

They pre-write articles on things that they think are likely to occur in order to be first to the news and get clicks from social media / Reddit to generate revenue.

The press that get information from Apple, under embargo, are these: https://www.macrumors.com/review/m2-macbook-air/

Those are hardware reviews. That’s a bit different.

I guarantee you that the sources you say do not get embargoed info do get it, at least on major software releases. Possibly not for beta drops but I wouldn’t even be so sure on that.

I have to agree with @TechieGeek here - ZERO chance that Apple is seeding these sites information about when a beta will drop. These articles are basically the same copy/paste week to week and then updated after the fact if anything new is found. It's all to get the clicks ASAP from the influx of people hearing about the new beta/software release.

There's no incentive for Apple to seed this information. For hardware it's different because Apple wants the review sites to get their reviews up just before the devices go up for sale so that people can hear how good the product is, get excited, and be primed to buy.

Well we’re just going to have to disagree again.

I think Apple will give information ahead of time in certain situations. For example all the stories about Lockdown Mode in beta 3 all hit at exactly the same time across multiple publications, and they were all complete stories with lots of info rather than a shell of a story which was updated after the fact.

Whereas more often than not, beta stories on here and other sites such as 9to5Mac are clearly pre-written and ready to go and will be updated once more information becomes available.

I think it was a press release published by Apple before the release of beta 3. So all sites got their news there: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2022...ment-to-protect-users-from-mercenary-spyware/
