Devs get the beta release first, because it’s a paid for subscription so a privilege.

Public betas, which is the same build number, just a week or a day later to the public, which your on.

In the early stages of a new iOS release, Dev accounts will see 3/4 betas releases typically before its stable enough to be released as public beta 1.

Yes, lots of betas to come until September 19 when the official release comes out.
No, Beta goes to devs first as we can report if it's serious issues with it so the public don't get effected.

Oh ok, good to know! This is my first time doing the beta, at least in many years. It already messed up my most used banking app, fingers crossed that gets fixed. Most things work okay so far though, and it was worth it to get some new features.

I do hope you know how to get back to the current public release and that you made an encrypted backup before doing this. Things can still go wrong for you that haven’t already. For example, GPS is something that frequently doesn’t work in the betas.

Actually, devs get it first so they can…develop apps. Developers needs these betas as soon as possible so they can have their apps ready to launch on or shortly after the full public release. That takes a lot of time. The reporting of serious issues is an intended and useful byproduct of that, but not it’s essential purpose.

I work in one of the IT departments for a very large hospital system in & around the Chicagoland area. I don't 'Develop' apps, specifically, but reporting issues and having some input to how our main app will work come fall will greatly help the other 60,000 some employees.

It also helps the world. A great contribution to the community as well. These professional developers are too busy maintaining their apps.

No, my point and part of the answer to his question, but I don’t suppose you read that before replying to me, is you need a Developer account to access the software, before, it then goes out as a public release, which he is on.

Refreshing in 11 minutes in the hope that PB3 is out today and I can finally rejoice at seeing that sweet number in the top right again.

PB3 is live :)

Ahh… it’s unlike the James Bond movie: you only live once - downloading the beta now. I’m curious for the lockscreen and the battery %.

Hope the battery is not too bad and the phone won’t heat up to much with the beta.

Good points, yes, thank you for the reminders. I wanted the Apple Watch new features I‘d seen. Like a fool, I didn’t think it through, that I’d have to get the iphone ”public beta” first, then the watch beta. It was a process but now I know. I think I did this many years back and swore off trying Beta things before they’re released for good, and eventually forgotten, reasons. 🤗 Most features are okay, with phone and watch, just minor weird things so far, and a credit union app that won’t allow biometric (fingerprint) as before, nor save my login info.
