I know we won't be getting it, but something that is long overdue is multiple users on iPadOS. I'm no longer using iPadOS myself. Apple Silicon pretty much killed every reason I had for choosing iPad Pro over MacBook Pro. I've had a MacBook Pro via work for years, but I've always had a 12,9-inch iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard that I was using at home. But ever since getting the MacBook Pro 14-inch with Apple M1 Pro I have never used my iPad Pro so I gave it to my mom and stepdad. My wife is still using her iPad Pro 12,9-inch and she prefers the simplicity of iPadOS and doesn't want to use macOS or Windows.
The same was the deal with my mom and stepdad, they wanted to move away from regular laptops with Windows or macOS to a more streamlined and simpler life with iPadOS. They love my old iPad Pro 12,9-inch with a Apple Magic Keyboard. It's exactly what they want. But there is this one huge drawback with it, it doesn't offer multiple users.
This is really annoying for them. They both have their iPhone 12 Pro and love them. They utilise Apple Family Sharing to the fullest, they have 2x Apple HomePods, they have 2x Apple TV's, one HD and one 4K. Using the iPad Pro and iPadOS is perfect for them, it's just this one huge flaw that is no multiple user accounts so they have to limit themselves to only have my stepdad's Apple ID on it and have his account logged into to all the apps.
Such a stupid limitation to have on a device that rocks an Apple M1, 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe storage. They don't need the capability of having multiple users at the same time. But having the option to simply have two isolated instances of iPadOS, one linked to my mom's Apple ID and the other to my stepdad's Apple ID so they could choose which one to start during startup would suffice. Let them split this 1TB NVMe storage in half, 512GB for each user and have them run completely separate would be more than good enoguh.
iPad, especially the iPad Pro has continued to grow into this much larger and more capable device. But the operating system has not. Especially since Apple decided to split the naming into iOS for phones and iPadOS for tables I was hoping it would result in iPadOS actually getting it's very own unique features that would make sense for it's capabilities but thus far this has not been the case at all. iPadOS simply mirrors iOS, and sometimes new iOS features don't even come to iPadOS until a year later (looking at you home screen widgets).
From a capitalistic point of view I can see the argument how Apple wants iPadOS to stay single users as that pushes for additional sales. But to be frank, they have to be losing sales as well. My mom and stepdad loves their iPad Pro 12,9-inch and iPadOS but the limitation of not being able to have multiple users is more likely to push them towards looking at something else when it has to be replaced as they find it silly to pay for two iPad's as they have no need for it and Apple trying to artificial create some kind of feel of them needing two iPad's by making the user experience sharing the same iPad far worse than it needs to be won't change it, it will just push them into considering getting something else completely.
