Did you have to do any of the toggling tricks, or did simply installing the new firmware automatically get things going and fix it for you?
I tried them on my first phone to no avail. Got a replacement, same issue. Then 17.1b2 just kinda sorted itself out. I didn’t do anything other than install it. It seemed to be back after the second night, which was the night I left it on the charger.

Awesome, well that’s encouraging. I’m hoping we all have the same result when 7.1 launches. Like others have said, all the photos are there when you scroll through convos - just not bunched into the dedicated convo archive.

Yep that was the exact issue I was having. No search results, no photo/links history, even though everything was there when scrolling through manually.

I have messages dating back to 2013. With iOS 17 and my iP15Pro, messages were indexed to Aug 2023, and with iOS 17 beta 2, it indexed to 6/30/2021. I downloaded iOS 17 beta 3 last night, reset Siri and Search settings, restarted, plugged in my phone, and I woke up with messages indexed back to 2013.

Just curious- do you use iCloud to back up your iMessages?

17.1 RC is out today. There’s nothing in the release notes that says it fixed this issue.

While beta 2 did not fix this for me, beta 3 did after a full night of indexing, all my images and links are back.
I have 17.1 and at first it took about 36 hours to index and for the most part was successful. Now today they are all out of order in each contact. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm super disappointed. I thought for sure they figure this out

I downloaded ios17.2 and all the pics came back in the Info section a few hrs later. Now this morning a bunch are missing. Did this happen to anyone else? Very frustrating!

this was not fixed for me. i just updated to 17.1
Go to settings messages and toggle off and on all the Siri tabs and give it two days. I thought it didn't work either. I have 116 Gb and they did come back. It only shows 13 gb but the pictures are all there. Wish someone could explain that but keep it plugged in and you should be good

Yes unfortunately this happened to me and over two days it kept indexing but now I would say I have 98% of my pictures back and in the correct order. At first, they populated in order then went out of order and lost some images then after 48 hours seemed to settle and I'm as close to 100% as this terrible design can get

Thank you so much for the reply! When you toggle off the Siri options, do you leave them off or turn them back on right away?

That's the basic suggested fix to re-index to toggle off and on. I go one step further. I turn off messages in cloud, and then I turn off messages and MMS messages in settings. Then I turn off all search Siri in settings, then I turn off face time Siri that's an unnecessary step but these are all the workarounds I have tried in the past then I do a hard reset then I turn on all the settings I turned off then indexing begins. It only actually works when plugged in and Wi-Fi. Hope that helps. I have been dealing with this since iPhone 13 and I can say that I have reasonable confidence that it's finally solved.

Oh wow thank you! I guess I’ll give it a few days. This just started with iOS 17 and my new 15 Pro. Pretty crazy!

This fixed it for me! Installed last night and let it index overnight plugged in, and now I can search messages again! Whew.

It is not immediate. It happens when your phone is charging, locked, and in WiFi.
Hi! I know it is not immediate, but it is just odd that yesterday after updating to iOS 17.1, within just a few hours all of the pictures were there, and now this morning, they aren’t. Odd that it would go back-and-forth like that.

Only pics that are downloaded show up in the info section. If iCloud Messages is enabled and the phone deletes the pick to free up space, it won't show up.

That said there are issues that predate iOS 17 that cause photos to frequently not show up in info. It's been that way pretty much since the feature was introduced. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't.

I think I’m going to just disable the iCloud in Messages then. I have a one terabyte phone with 800 GB free of space, I really don’t need to free up space on my iPhone. I would rather have the pictures and links readily available on the phone rather than waiting for them to download or not be available at all. Unreal.

Hi gang, after a couple days, looks like there mostly back again. So crazy… anyone else?

Do you use iCloud to back up your iMessages? I haven’t downloaded the new update yet since I’m away, but I’m wondering if I should turn mine off before downloading.
