Have you ever used a web app? Again, it's been a feature since the original iPhone release. You have to deliberately create a web app by navigating to the share sheet and selecting "Add to Home Screen" in Safari. It isn't something that a website can create automatically.
That’s not relevant to that web apps may not be the greatest thing since sliced bread and still ripe for abuse.

Web apps were how I mainly got past that "walled garden" of apps that have continuity between my iPhone, iPad and custom Windows 11 PC. They try this in the US at all, I may have to reconsider staying with Apple for a phone.

When the law goes in effect they will look at every detail and Apple will be forced to make changes to all their weird new rules. And if they keep obstructing the EU laws the consequences and fines will be severe.

There is no chance the EU will get them get away with much of those things. Especially because those laws are invented mainly for Apple/Google/Meta/Microsoft. However those other companies don't seem to be actively trying to show bad faith. They won't win this. Just like they are not winning that watch patent war.

A web app that takes over the screen is definitely a recipe for disaster.
As an iOS developer...no.

It "takes over the screen" after you
1. Navigate directly to the website in Safari
2. hit the share button
3. find the add to homescreen button
4. find an open the homescreen icon

So basically..just like an app. They can't remove system gestures or override things, you just swipe to close it like any other process on iOS. And this has already existed for years now with no issues. The real scams are the $9.99/wk weather app subscriptions apple allows in the app store.

They are not losing the watch patent war either.

Sounds like what the law requires. If PWAs essentially use a chrome-less instance of Safari, how would that work with the requirement that users be allowed to choose their default browser and not be forced to use Apple's?

This won't be the last unintended consequence of this poorly thought-out law.
A great moment in unintended consequences for sure.

I replaced my Pixel 8 pro with a 15 pro max a few weeks ago, starting to think it's good I haven;t sold the pixel yet.

Stuff like this, and the quality of life features of the pixel over the iPhone...

i got a 15 Pro Max at launch but the way Apple are going then I think i'll just go back to Android when it's time to upgrade. Infact I might even just do it when my AC+ runs out next year.

I thought many in Europe were on a pro-Huawei, pro-Android phone product rally? So, if people don’t like Apple or the way they operate, why bother buying their products? Makes no sense to me wanting a product but don’t like the way it works so want them to change it to one’s liking…simply buy it or don’t. -shrugs-

Apple is getting sketchier by the day. Been using Mac nearly 20 years and iPhone over 10 but I may start looking at Galaxies. I hate admitting that not wanting to look poor or lower-class plays a part in my not wanting an Android phone. For my next computer, though, I’m looking at a PC.

iOS and MacOS have gotten buggy as hell and what they charge for RAM and storage upgrades is unconscionable, especially considering the low specs of base units. I like my 13” M1 Air but it doesn’t offer any advantages. Intel Macs were amazing due to boot options. The PowerPCs before them had their own merits (and Jobs-era dedication and QC). After the Watch launch and the BEATS acquisition is when Apple really started losing its soul.
lmao i was agreeing with you at first but android/PC users are poor/low class? grow up lol.

apple is pissing me off too but c'mon.
