Me. I don't sync to iCloud at all, no iCloud drive, no pictures, no notes, no keychain - absolutely nothing other than contacts and the bug happened to me.
"The bug", but not the one reported here where your photos are showing up on an older device that was previously wiped.

Hopefully there weren't any savory photos of wife/girlfriend that would definitely be embarrassing 😜

A popular interpretation of Quantum Mechanics is when a quantum event happens, the universe splits into multiple, non-interacting branches, each representing a different possible outcome. Could there be a bug in the matrix? We think these branches are non-interacting with each other, but we have no way of actually testing that. So maybe there's an occasional leak between different branches.

I wonder if removing the old iPad from your apple database of devices would have helped.

Then we're talking about potentially two bugs. Sure it's absolutely possible that there are two severe flaws that Apple created or it's the same bug. If I'm affected with no iCloud syncing, it's a lot more likely the same thing is happening on the older device where old pictures are showing up if that device is being updated to 17.5.

The bug is that "deleted/wiped" pictures are reappearing. You can completely isolate iCloud because it's just the secondary storage device where the iOS device was the main device where any image would originally be on. So any iOS device that was wiped in anyway and sold to another user, any photo that was on those devices could reappear with the bug without even being connected to iCloud.

Or at least that's how I'm interpreting this bug. *shrugs*

Okay? This is somehow related to iCloud? Because I sold my MacBook Air 3 years ago (Logged out from Find my and wiped even overwrote SSD) but last week I just found it in my Find My with another person’s name on it located at other part of the country. I was scared as s*** thought somebody hacked my AppleID but came to the conclusion that I just accidentally violated somebody’s privacy.
Did you contact Apple about this and if you did what did they say?

Looks like the initial Reddit post was from a couple days ago. I wonder what made MR decide to post about it today?
I feel like we would've heard more of these type of cases by now as well. Plenty of people with hand-me-downs and yet this guy is the only one to report this (with a vague post history), yet people here are calling it the end of Apple.

To clarify, one must also remove the device from your AppleID before wiping it…
What does that mean? When I picked up my new iPad and turned in the old one (at an Apple Store) the only thing they had me do was turn off find my. I didn’t log out of anything on the old device. Once the new device was set up and everything was there then they had me wipe the old device.

I did not contact Apple. I just changed my password and logged off on all device. Weirdly the device did not show on the devices page on Apple ID setting. It only appeared in Find My. So I just deleted that MacBook from find my device list.

I contacted Apple because apparently some apps could have access to my camera roll, microphone and camera even though I didn’t grant access in the privacy settings.

They played dumb telling me they don’t understand what I meant.

Then they ignored my messages. After I re-messaged them, they played dumb again, presumable not knowing what I mean.

I’ve said it often and I will repeat it. Apple is more and more of a trash company.

Low quality products and garbage software. That’s what Apple stands for these days.

Who tells us, in this world of global fights for power and influence, that Apple isn’t tracking us far deeper than they admit, with who knows what plans in mind?

The personal data about each of us a company such as Apple can amass is monstrous.

What if our devices record us and in the future you’ll just be able to buy this **** somewhere and take individual people down?

Look at movies, there is a high demand for dystopian films, many people like to be dystopian. It’s the philosophy and aesthetic of many. Google removed its "don’t be evil" motto.

A new generation of criminals, the first global digital criminals, might be on its way.

Look at how crazy Elon Musk is also. Or remember the scandals around Zuckerberg. A new generation of completely insane and unpredictable digital dictators seems to come to power.

Who knows what our Apple devices can really do. The design and the nice feeling of the material under our hands is just what we’re sold on. The actual thing with its actual functions is behind that but nobody really knows what it does, we can only trust it.

Remember when you could type in "bra" in your camera roll or something like that and it would show all cleavage photos or so? It was a glitch that showed what was happening behind the friendly user interface, the iPhone was collecting infos on what was seen in the photos and making categories without anyone knowing. Apple never mentioned it was doing this. When people found out due to a bug like in this new case here, Apple started finding excuses.

Democracy is in serious danger and it’s being fired at from all sides. I believe that Apple too might be firing at Democracy. We can still save it, though. It’s our most valuable asset and our global competitive advantage. Dictators from all over the world want to take it from us for exactly this reason.

The iPad would have signed out of your Apple account when it was wiped.

Ok first off thats terrifying. Second…clearly Apple is tieing iCloud accounts to device IDs and that’s what’s even worse….you delete it from your account and it’s still keeping data….
