What does "only in the EU mean"? Does the user physically have to be in the EU? Does it have to be an iPhone that is sold in the EU? Does it have to be activated the first time in the EU? How would Apple enforce those restrictions?
It's a rumor that side loading will only be available for EU region instead of world wide. Of course how Apple gets around this whole requirement is still not known also. It's based on what we think will happen. ;)

The same way they already do with alternate payments and other appstore related features that are required in certain markets.

To be honest, I'm sick and tired of watching Apple essentially killing businesses one by one as they eventually come after their products.

And that'd be perfectly fine if they gave everyone a fair chance by using the same public APIs these companies do.

But since they don't, it's just infuriating to watch. Maybe I'm compassionate as I'm a developer myself. 🤷🏻‍♂️

iPhoneOS 17 Coming Soon for iPhones

It doesn't actually come until September. So it's not soon.

Tech news so often say a company "launches" or "releases" or "drops" when it should say that the company "announces" something that would not be released to the general public until months or even years away.
Came here to say this. I'd hardly classify September as "soon".

Nothing killer in there but plenty of welcome tweaks. Very interested in the Journal app and Wallet could certainly use some love - get's a bit crowed in there what with cards, travel tickets, COVID pass etc etc etc. Further features on the anti-tracking and also possibly the tag sharing, can only be a good thing, too, surely.

This sounds like some random things coming to a future .3 update. And now that we can download Apple apps from the AppStore, why can’t they release updates at any time that way? Why can they only update an app through a major new iOS release once a year???

I strangely see x.1 and x.x.1 updates throughout the year that gives upgrades regularly for Apple apps throughout the year 🙄
Not quite once per year..

Well, it's not going to be that hard because they have already been doing it. Even the app stores and various aspects of iOS are different in different countries. Even if some people make the effort to get around it, they will be a negligible percentage.

unfortunately the new CarPlay will also require a new car ...oh well, I'll continue enjoying current CarPlay in my 7 month old Bolt EUV :)
Companies like BMW already offer convenient car upgrade plans. You’ll be able to always drive the car with the latest CarPlay release.

The first iOS 17 beta should be made available to members of Apple's Developer Program moments after the keynote, while a public beta will likely be available in July for members of Apple's Beta Software Program. As usual, the update should be widely released in September extremely buggy like iOS 16 and is not recommended for daily use...
Noted. Thanks for the warning. 👍 🤣

Looking forward to the updated and improved Wallet though

There's no such thing as iPhoneOS. It's iOS for iPhones, iPadOS is for iPad, macOS is for Macs.
When they renamed iOS for iPad to iPadOS, along with releasing M1 iPad Pro, some people, including me thought something big is going to happen. Now we know iPadOS is going nowhere. In fact, it takes several months for iPadOS to get the features newly announced iOS got.

Of what's currently rumored, nothing really screams out at me. Aside from the journaling app.

Sadly, journaling on my phone is a terrible idea, and I'd prefer it to be made available cross device, notably for macOS, but we shall see if it's even a thing in the first place.

I think it would depend on if your iCloud account is EU based, but I might be wrong.

MacRumors, this is disingenuous (and a bit clickbait-ey) – iOS 17 is not coming soon for iPhone, really.

Its introduction is very likely soon, but that's different to it becoming available to "the rest of us" as the latest OS (a beta programme doesn't count). September isn't soon.
Well, the developer beta will be released soon, which I assume is what they meant.

ONE thing I’d wish so see now.
Manual white balance in Camera app. Locking white balance. White balance presets.
It is absolutely incredible that’s not a feature ever since first iPhone was released.
It looks terrible when Camera app auto balances everything, depending which angle you take.
In 10s shot, grass, sky changing their colours several times as you pan, it’s awful.

You have to use paid 3rd party apps like Filmic, Beastcam…
