I've honestly been quite happy with auto-correct, it allows me to type on the iPhone and iPad without really needing to look at the letters and the auto-correct usually works it out nicely.

The only thing I'd really like them to try and fix is where I accidentally hit space instead of one of the bottom letters on the keyboard, e.g. instead of "entrance" I might type "e tra ce" (it's usually the letters on the right I miss). If it could intelligently work out that I've hit space instead of the intended letter then that would be really impressive.

The only other thing I wish they'd add is being able to make the backspace button delete forwards like the delete key on PCs. I often find dragging the cursor ends with it on the wrong side of the letter or word I want to delete. If I could just swipe on the backspace key to delete forwards instead of backwards I think that would be really useful. Either that or make text selection and cursor positioning less prone to ending up in the wrong place!

Also in danish?

Believe it or not — We have never had auto correction nor auto complete from Apple's keyboard.

Have to rely on Google's GBoard for that. They've offered it for years and years.

Come on Apple.
Available in Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Korean, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, and Thai. English, French, and Spanish require iPhone 12 or later.

I don't care if "iOS 17 Promises to Dramatically Improve iPhone's Autocorrect" because I wish iOS 17 would dramatically improve iOS 16's bugginess.

According to Apple autocorrection supports Danish, predictive typing does not not.
We had autocorrection in Swedish for quite sometime, not saying it’s perfect at all.
But the shifting between English and Swedish keyboards is the problem when it comes to autocorrecting.
The predicting typing is actually just as good in Swedish as in English. But it could be improved a lot across keyboards. When I type on the Swedish keyboards it could as well give me English predictive words, as I use both, and should be obvious to the function. But I guess that is asking for too much.

I recall Siri's interaction regarding that ADDED to the pain exponentially as well. Do you mean this and that was really annoying, and the only answer I had on these annoyingly repeated questions was to totally turn her off. Then Peace.

Yep, generally those over a half a century old and above do .
I'm (barely) in that group and never heard it in my life. Must be some kind of west coast hipster thing.

Consider yourself lucky... Don't want for evils you do not understand... 😉

So this year we get widgets back on MacOS, and iOS autocorrect circa 2012. I didn't watch either of the keynotes but did they announce this as an all around "Snow Leopard" year?

Can't wait for 2024 when Apple once again supports machines from 2017 and older. 😄

I hope it no longer does this weird thing where it replaces the word but still leaves the wrong bit of the previous word.

For instance I might type „I was walkled“ and then it corrects it to „I was walking led“ 🤦🏼‍♂️
Sadly, it still does

I see a lot of posters like to duck around.

never mind ducking, i never want to see wiht or portghual again. How can autocorrect not fix them?

Apple today previewed iOS 17 for the iPhone, and one of the key new features coming with the update is improved autocorrect functionality.

iOS-17-Autocorrect-Feature.jpg

Apple says iOS 17 includes a state-of-the-art language model for word prediction that will greatly improve autocorrection on the iPhone. Any time you type, on-device machine learning will intelligently correct mistakes with greater accuracy than ever before. In addition, you will now receive predictive text recommendations inline as you type, allowing for words or complete sentences to be added by tapping the space bar.

Autocorrection has an updated design on iOS 17 that briefly underlines an autocorrected word. Tapping on an underlined word reveals the original word that you typed, making it easy to quickly revert the change. The system will also learn your typing habits over time and avoid some corrections, which Apple's software engineering chief Craig Federighi said is designed for "those moments where you just want to type a ducking word."

iOS 17 is available in beta starting today for members of Apple's Developer Program, and will be publicly released later this year. Autocorrection can be enabled or disabled in the Settings app under General → Keyboard → Auto-Correction.

Will it be in Danish or will Danes be cheated again

Automatic language detection is another thing I’d like to see added, but I guess that won’t happen anytime soon.
Thing is, the keyboard has that feature, just not for any combinations involving Swedish. If you were to use English and German only then you could do that.

Isn’t this about a decade overdue? Christ on a bike it’s the most frustrating thing about using an iPhone. The amount of things I type and then read back and it’s changed to something nonsensical is unbelievable and a multi time daily experience. Sometimes I just leave it out if frustration and laugh with others how stupid the sentences are that they’ve received. It truly is shocking and can’t believe only now Apple are addressing it.

Siri is just as appalling and maybe they could get out of 2012 and have a look at that too?

Who cares, it most likely won’t support any Norwegian countries anyway.

I hate how all these news are presented as only America exists. If it wasn’t for Europe, the sales wouldn’t be as huge.

You’re right. If Apple sold just one phone in Europe, however, that would still also be true.

Apple is based in the United States. Most of its employees are in the United States. A huge percentage of its customers are in the United States. Why would you expect the coverage to be different?
