More broken apps I see. Good thing I've switched everything to the apps Google provides. Bought a new laptop today --- ASUS Rog gaming laptop. AMD Ryzen 9 w/4060RTX graphics processor and 3k OLED display. It costs less than a Macbook Pro and the software runs better, and also, I can play all of my XBox games on it.

Hopefully more people wake up and realize Apple's developers are people that don't know how to code properly.

Only one piece left to rid of Apple entirely... A Galaxy S25 Ultra/S25+. Can't wait.

I was a big Apple fan but I can't put up with Grandma Cook's shenanigans anymore.
Google needs a replacement for the iPad/iPhone Notes app. Google Keep ain’t it.

Also suffering the same on Fastmail.

The lack of read/message status push sync in the background and the silent filtering stories are the only reasons I haven't consolidated onto iCloud for mail like everything else. At this point, I'm just happy to see anything involving Mail in hopes that it spurs improvements in those things one day.

For a variety of reasons, I still use email accounts via POP3 on macOS, iPadOS, and iOS, which can only be set up with a little workaround. I had a few synch issues across all devices after the recent OS update and ended up having to reinitialize each account.
But now, my beloved Apple Mail is back to its usual self—99.9% reliable, even with my very large database. I find its database structure much easier to manage compared to, say, the outdated Outlook. Honestly, Outlook is a bit of a sad program, and I’ve had a much harder time setting it up in any meaningful way at work!

My issue is that rules don't work filtering out bad emails and deleting them. I have a rule to delete all emails that come from outlook.com and hotmail.com because I'm being inundated by really stupid dating website come-ons. I don't get any emails i care about from either service, so it should be an easy rule to make that just immediately deletes all emails from those two domains. But nothing happens.

Tim Cook has a call out to Steve Jobs about licensing the OG Outlook Express to replace the antiquated iMail app.

Will they notify the users that the mail app is broken 🤔 guess people may just miss receiving important emails

Same problem. It's been way worse recently but I've also had this issue happening on and off for years. That alongside the horrendous spam filtering makes me want to change email more and more.

OMG yes. This started happening to me recently. I hope they fix it, it's super annoying. I know iCloud mail isn't the greatest, but I prefer it over the alternatives, so please make notifications work again. Thank you Tim Apple.

Impacted on iPhone 16 Pro, running iOS 18.3.2, build 22D82 and iPad Pro (M2) running 1.8.2 (build 22D82). MacBook Pro (M4) running Sequoia 15.3.2 (build 24D81) is running fine as does iCloud.com on the web. Logged a call with Apple!
So frustrating to sometimes open mail on iPhone or iPad and have a days worth of mail sudden hit all at once!

Disappointing to hear issues with the new software. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next update. Unlike in the past, not happy to update my devices as soon as an update is released.

Sadly, Apple Mail on iOS/iPadOS is not pushing well at all, and not just due to iOS 18.3.2. Even prior they would struggle with many 3rd party email push delivery, due to opting to use “less energy consuming” push protocols. However, if we look at how fast Gmail pushes mails in their native iOS app and how very little battery power it uses, Apple are so far behind!

This is because macOS is using IDLE push, whereas iOS/iPadOS don’t, presumably for “battery savings”.

On the flip side, for me this update is the first one to actually fix Mail since iOS 18 launched so that the notification badge doesn’t keep showing unread emails even thought there aren’t any. To clear the badge I’d have to manually sync by dragging down in the app and keep it open until it had finished (which was a guessing game as there’s no visual feedback on when syncing finishes).

Not a single mention of IMAP in this entire article? iCloud Mail uses the industry-standard IMAP protocol, which includes a Push extension.

However, Apple's iCloud does not use the Push-IMAP extension, but a variant of XMPP, according to Wiki.

I hope Apple doesn't go too proprietary going forward. One thing that set Macs apart was their adherence to industry standard protocols, contrary to Microsoft and Google.
