Apple seeded the third beta of iOS 18.5 to developers today, and so far the software update includes only a few minor changes.

The changes are in the Mail and Settings apps.

In the Mail app, you can now easily turn off contact photos directly within the app, by tapping on the circle with three dots in the top-right corner.

In the Settings app, AppleCare+ coverage information is more prominent.

iOS 18.5 will likely be released to the general public in May.

When a minor version update includes only a few minor new features (along with bug fixes and/or performance optimizations), those new features were usually targeted for the previous version. Seemingly minor nature of 18.5 is an indication of it being the final minor update to 18.

“The circle with the three dots” is a UI feature looking for a name. 😉🤔

Wasn’t this supposed to be the update with the new Siri? Makes sense that it’s now a minor update since that got removed; I doubt they were planning many other features.

So, the nag-screen for buying something from them hot bigger anf there's a new toggle to easier switch something unpopular off... Apple kind of feels like Microsoft in the 00s, lately
I wish I could agree but I do not at all know what you’re talking about.
Edit: figured it out

Seriously, what's even the point?
Well, why do you care?
In the end we, as consumers, will never fully know what each update is about. The default setting is for iPhones to automatically update, so every laymen can get whatever‘s new without any effort.
.5 means something changed, MacRumors doesn’t have a full picture (because how would they) and neither do you or I. I read that .5 changes something about the AI models installed on device, maybe it does, maybe not.
Seriously, what’s even the point to talk about it if we don’t know what it‘s all about.

They also brought back the Back Tap notification banners that were in the earlier 18.4 betas before disappearing. However, they now added a toggle in Settings to turn off these banners, which is something I requested in feedback during the 18.4 betas and it’s nice to have proof they listen.

There are 2 bugs here:
1. If you lock your phone and make it idle for some time (15-20 minutes) and then send message from other phone to yours via WhatsApp, Telegram, you will not receive the notification until you unlock your phone. This bug randomly appears, sometimes all works fine, but sometime I don't receive notification for a long time. It appears on iOS 18.4.1 and 18.5 DB3. Here's a thread on Apple Community with this bug: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255799013?sortBy=newest_first&page=1
2. If you listen to a WhatsApp voice message through the overhead speaker (you need to put your phone to your ear when listening to the message), then there will be an unpleasant click when the volume is lowered to a minimum level.

It’s all good. iOS 18 issues will be fixed with iOS 19, just like iOS 17 issues were fixed with 18…
If only that were true
I wish the settings app would allow you to ‘pin’ certain apps/settings you use frequently. Or maybe like with Spotlight have Siri suggest apps/settings you use frequently.
When I saw this article saying changes in the Settings app I was hoping they reverted and made it less annoying to get to app settings, especially the default apps. Your solution would be a good compromise.

Come on now. This is the same information posted in an article weeks ago:

That was for the first beta. This article updates you on what changed as of the third beta (i.e. not much).
