It does now; both in Voice Memos and directly within the Notes app.

What if you don’t remember their name?? How do you find them??
Most end users are likely to recall other attributes of the contact record, and search that way "name of the company" , "job title" etc. I don't know of anyone, outside of a data analyst in an enterprise setting, whose primary means of identifying contacts in a list is by order of record creation.

Great feature, but I am curious on the efficiency and accuracy of transcribing the call. May be give an option to disable botificaation for those who don’t live in two party consent state.

Legal in all of Canada (one party consent) so at least being geographically aware could help here. Otherwise voice memos it is still.
That's good. But I'm sure Apple wants to cover their behinds regardless, so you'll have to notify the other party of the recorded call.

Will this have Live Translation of the transcription like on the latest Samsungs?

iOS 18: So many new features, so few bug fixes.

Long-standing iOS bugs (from many previous iOS versions) will not be fixed in iOS 18.

With more new features than ever before, iOS 18 will likely be the buggiest release in iOS history.

Tim Cook is a greedy corporate scumbag who is far more concerned about making money than providing customers a user-friendly user experience.

iOS 18 will still include a user-unfriendly Microsoft-pioneered flat design GUI instead of a user-friendly Apple-pioneered skeuomorphic design GUI.

Cook's most colossal failure of a decision was firing Scott Forstall. iOS was a far superior under Forstall's leadership. Forstall's masterpiece iOS 6 was the pinnacle of smartphone operating systems.
You’re so delusional it’s hilarious.

Here's a question: Does this mean Apple will finally let customers record phone calls with Apple? Apple Support will immediately terminate the call and refuse to provide support if the customer records the call, even though Apple records all calls.

What are you talking about? Are you saying CEO at Microsoft, Google, FB, and all major companies in USA are not making money? You should probably learn about Tim C, where he comes from before trying to post first with useless comments.
I’ll take Mac OS anytime over Window. I recently bought a PC (for Game) and had Window install.
Still the same old boring UI, non intuitive at all. Windows will NEVER be compete with Mac OS because apple makes the hardware and the software. Something Bill Gates and future CEO failed to understand or did not pay attention too.
OK PC was fast. But not anymore Apple Silicon is making PC laptop battery a joke !

You should also learn that Apple employs some of the smartest people and I’m guessing you’re not working there.
They study, observe, and sometime copy ideas. But they also invent. Steve was great, but I think T Cook took Apple to the next level. Tim, Johnny and Steve were close. They all had a passion: Apple.

So ok, there will be bugs. Who cares ! Show me a OS or software release without one.

Let’s hope there is an option to turn off notifying others of recording.

put the phone on speaker and use an external recorder if you want to do that.

but understand that is illegal in the US to record a phone call without notifying all parties of a call that recording is taking place.

that would be illegal in CA and probably other places, so, there better not be that option
Yet other places it is legal, so there better be that option. For example, in Canada (at least my province) it's perfectly legal to do so as long as one party agrees

SIM cards???? My iPhone no longer uses physical cards.

I think that means seamlessly switch eSIMS, not physical SIMs, as all iphones now have an eSIM regardless of whether or not they have a physical sim card slot too (and btw seeing that the latest ipad pros are eSIM only, that might even mean the coming iphones are going eSIM only worldwide except China).

In Canada, I am allowed to legally record a call that I am a party of, even if the others are not made aware, as long as it is not for commercial purposes. If I am making a call to someone on behalf of a company, the other party should be notified. Apple is probably covering themselves here from liability just in case.
Most likely the reason. For example, in 🇦🇺, it is illegal to record a phone call, conversation, video call etc without both parties consent.

Which means there will be no way to use local SIMs while travelling to China because they do not support eSIM, and unlikely ever will.

Still, just because it’s niche doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be there. Granted, Apple may choose to never implement, but that’s a different story.

What an unhinged rant with no basis in fact or reality

That is incorrect. It is state/territory dependent and what you can do with those recordings also varies between the states that allow one party consent.

As has been noted there are more states that are only one party consent than there are two party consent states. That aside, there are already at least a dozen for purchase apps in the App Store that already do this. While I only checked the pages of a few the ones I did clearly note it is the recording party's responsibility to know if they need to advise the person they are recording leading me to believe there is no notification method in these apps as it should be.
