A mail program should do mail. A calendar program should do calendars. A reminder program should do reminders. And a contacts program should do contacts.

AND THEY SHOULD NEVER, EVER, EVER BE THE SAME PROGRAM.

There is ZERO crossover. There should be no integration. It's already excessive with Apple trying to grab data from one into the other.
That is your opinion. Your opinion isn't fact, even though you are trying to present it as absolute. And stop with the caps. It doesn't add any more validity to your subjective opinion.

there is some overlap but they serve distinct purposes
I have used the calendar as a reminder for years : meeting, appointment, family stuff etc with appropriate reminders (called ‘alert’ in Calendar). I only very recently tried to use Remainder but don’t see any difference or purpose.

Reminders? That's one of the useless apps I deleted from the iPad and wish I could delete from the Mac.

The things I need reminders for are in Calendar.

Lots of people will welcome this, and most GTD apps do it. But I think of a calendar item - a fixed appointment - as something completely different from a reminder - something to do, possibly at a certain time but not necessarily of a certain length.

I used to integrate my calendar when I used OmniFocus, but I found it confusing to mix both things and switched it off.

I almost wrote something along these lines on another thread discussing features I'd like to see in future updates (iOS 18 specifically). Reminders/Calendar should be integrated FOR SURE! Hell, integrate it all. Add Reminders/Calendar/Notes integrations into Apple Mail.

(I know that it does a pretty okay job at Siri Suggesting Events, but let us open previews of these Apps within at least)

"The change will extend to the Mac with macOS 15, the report says."

But not iPad OS 18. That's an iPad OS 19 feature, people.
I want to live in a world -- ehem, ecosystem -- where yearly (buggy) software updates are no longer forced, and instead, useful features are integrated across devices.

Apple is intent with repeating the bloated itunes experience with safari, calendar and notes by adding a bunch of niche features.
This really isn't a niche feature. Being able to see everything you need to do that day, both in terms of defined appointments and checklist reminder items, in a single interface is incredibly useful for some. Doesn't mean the two apps are being merged, just that they talk to each other.

Wait what? They separated it years ago after snow leopard and now they want to rejoin them again? o_O
Are they going to bring back tasks again?

I remember when they dumbed down calendar in order for it to work on iPhone and iPad.
Remember when they did that to macOS Pages? They took away features in order to make it work with the iPad.

Forget everything else Apple can abd can't do with reminders, the main thing they need to do is fix the longstanding glitch where reminders on phone don't sync reminders on computer.

No wonder big business use Ms office.
Reminders on iCloud.com is a disgrace.

Wow, so Apple speaks of keeping us secure and yet we use Apple and engage Google? What's wrong with this picture?

Calendar has essentially been untouched since iOS 7.

And reminders got a few changes a few years ago, but seems to be designed intending Siri to be the primary UI for creating reminders (ummm).

So sounds good.

New encrypted formats for both of these too, maybe?

I exclusively use reminders because I find it far easier to use and have a overview. But I must admit when making an appointment with somebody calendar would be easier to see when you still have time to spare.

I really hope this feature comes.

This makes sense. I already prefer to create an event with a notification in the Calendar instead of a reminder, because then I can see when they are in the month rather than just a long list of reminders.
