+ the possibility to focus the camera with camera controls

That one will be good. This will open up a DSLR-like function on the phone that most never knew was already there.

Of course with the small sensor, almost everything in the frame up till note was within the hyperfocal range and thus in focus anyway. This changed somewhat in recent phones with the larger (though still small) sensors, the longer periscope light path and the macro lensing. As a result the dedicated focus button will be helpful.

It’s definitely a feature I didn’t know was there, and still don’t know how to access on an older iPhone - or if I even can.
Would definitely be cool though. As someone who shoots manual focus lenses for most of my *real* photography, being able to do the same on iPhone would be great. And maybe one of the first truly useful implementations of the camera control.

Unfortunately it’s not available yet. Apple just said later this year. And I think it will only work with the Camera Control button

Locking focus and exposure is something that you could always do with a tap and hold on the touch screen - the way I interpreted the above quoted post is that they may implement a full manual focus control with the slider. Which would be neat! But I haven’t seen anything from apple indicating that myself

My personal speculation:
Monday or Tuesday: 20 minute video uploaded to YouTube around 9AM eastern with new MBPs, iMac and Mac Mini announcements. Think that January 2023 video with the new HomePod and M2 Macs.

Same day: iOS 18.1, macOS 15.1, iPadOS 18.1, tvOS 18.1, visionOS 2.1 and watchOS 11.1 RC released, along with updates to iOS/iPadOS 17 and 16, macOS Sonoma and Ventura.

October 28: public releases.

October 29: iOS 18.2, macOS 15.2, iPadOS 18.2, tvOS 18.2, visionOS 2.2 and watchOS 11.2 Beta 1 released.

November 11: Beta 2 released.
November 18: Beta 3 released.

December 2: Beta 4 released.

December 9: RCs release.

December 16: public release.

December 17: iOS 18.3, macOS 15.3, iPadOS 18.3, tvOS 18.3, visionOS 2.3 and watchOS 11.3 Beta 1 released.

Christmas break.

“Camera Control” is the name of that button with with the capacitive slider control reverted to in the marketing page I screenshotted above. So it’s coming and I agree it will be neat!

Ok. We’re done here in this thread until January. This post nailed it.
