Liquid glass is a mess but I don’t think even Apple would have intentionally designed something like this. Somehow Liquid Glass is getting confused with light and dark mode, though I only notice it in Safari.
can't you just long press the file and select view in quicklook? it should stick for when you open another file.
I don’t think so. For sure, as with so many things it’s up to a personal preference but I think it often looks pretty good. The version that apple shipped with 26.0 isn’t/wasn’t simply near good or anywhere near ready to ship.
Often the adaption and the choice of the font colour for the Liquid Glass elements is broken in 26.0. It works so much better with 26.1 B4 and I’m sure everybody will be happy when 26.1 finally ships. Especially with the New Option to chooses between the frosted and the transparent glass, it should be possible to find something that works.

You’d be surprised as to Apple’s incompetence. The one thing they seem to really excel at is inconsistency across iOS. Tinted option not having any effect in the control center or dock for instance.
Liquid Glass is designed to switch between light and dark depending on background content, so it’s not that obvious if you think about it considering how inconsistent the design elements have been across platforms.
There is a setting for this already! In Files, long press on the PDF > Open With > Preview with Quick Look.
That setting will stick, and things will work the same as before...
Same on my 17 PM, updated from 26.0.1 to 26.1 B4 and apps froze when updating. Restated the phone and then half my apps updated and then it froze again. Since restarting twice I've done multiple app updates since and they've all updated just fine.
Strange bug, since starting with the 3GS it's the first time I've seen this issue. Hopefully they fix this on the next beta as it's an annoying one.

Sure, that's another option as well. Like the OP, I like the Preview app. I find that some things are easier to do in Preview than in Files, so I use both apps for different things.Wouldn’t it be easier to just delete the Preview app instead of not using it?
Battery on this update is so freaking good. Seriously insane how good it is. Over night unplugged, my battery only drained 1%.

Apparently its also happening to people on iOS 18 as well. I for one have not had any issues with it. And so far this version is the best yet for iOS 26 (for me at least) on iPhone16.
I've had this bug on iOS 18 as well, I think it's a server-side thing honestly. I'm seeing it occasionally on both my iPad and iPhone since beta 3.
You seem to be the only one reporting this. Have you found others, here or elsewhere (reddit etc)? I'm starting to suspect it's something very specific to your device. If I was you, I'd wipe the device clean and restore from iCloud. Annoying but I have a hunch it would solve it.
Long-press a PDF file, tap 'Open With' and select 'Preview with Quicklook'. It will then set Quicklook as default for PDF files.
Still not working for me. Did a restart today but all 26 apps just spin without updating. Annoying.
Or at minimum do the "Reset all settings" option. That typically clears out weird things like this and is less intrusive than a full on restore. Of course settings, wallpapers, wallet cards, wifi will have to be re-setup but apps and data will remain intact. But yeah a restore via IPSW and iCloud restore of data may help unless whatever is causing it is in the backup. Heck maybe just a re-install/upgrade via IPSW may be good to try first.
Aaaaaand this is why I'm not updating to the beta. Sorry you're dealing with that bug!
This has not been just a beta issue. This has been an issue on iOS18 as well. I have been on this beta and it is by far the best of the 4. Both on my 17 PM and my iPad
But I’ve never had this apps not downloading / updating issue. Is there even a workaround that’s guaranteed to work? I’ve read restarting a couple times? Can anyone confirm that fully solves the issue?
Liquid glass seems way too fussy. I don’t mind a refresh as OS user interfaces do get stale (I thought iOS 6 was stale for sure). But man this one is really a dog’s breakfast.
