Oh, I'm absolutely certain Apple will ship this masterpiece of chaos just the way it is. I'd bet every penny on it. 😂
I hope not ,
26.1 RC somehow not as good as beta 4 for me .
Saying that it’s 100 percent better then iOS 26.0.1 but yeah 26.1 RC sometimes stuff glitches and frames drop or the phone becomes hot for no reason.

Unfortunately, I think he’s right. There is no doubt in my mind that iOS 26.1 is going to be released with myriad of issues both visual and not. And, with Apple’s probable track record of software getting worse year after year, I don’t think these issues will be fixed for a very very long time, if ever.

That’s why I wonder still if Apple going for this big redesign was worth it .
Would of been better if it was iOS 19 and just slight visual changes and many bug fixes

It would have been much better. I don’t get the focus on the visual redesign, while leaving stability aside, regressions galore, destroying battery life, and falling further behind in AI.

And the greatest irony of all, they do all that while posting a record breaking quarter, and surpassing 4T market cap.

Tim Cook truly is a shareholders dream. Pity for us tech enthusiasts, though.

Well hopefully by 26.7 we will have a chance of having a working AI and operating system

It wasn’t worth it, in my opinion at least. And I would barely call it to redesign. There is a bit of see-through on icons… So what. Who gives a crap?

I genuinely believe most users would prefer that their software just worked rather than (attempting to) prettying up a turd.

I just wish Tim Cooke would go. But with the latest stock value, which boggles my mind how that happened, that’s not happening any time soon.

Anyway, back OT, there is nothing to applaud here, nothing to celebrate, same bugs, same issues, same lack of anything majorly useful or interesting or innovative. I don’t believe that any future updates of 26 will address this either. But that’s just my opinion. And I really hope I’m proven wrong.

On my 17 Pro Max, apart from the stutter from widgets to home screen, the rest of the interface is, in fairness, very smooth.

everything is smooth on RC and it was on Beta 4, what are the issues? I have no time to read 15 pages.
I installed RC on 16 max pro, 17 pro, Ultra watch and 10 series, ipad mini, mac mini m2, 3 macbooks.....

no single issue.....sometimes text messages don't go through but this is bloody Three UK because I have a dual sim and the other provider works great.
Sometimes I need to unplug and plug again the cable for AppleCar working properly.....but ot could be the cable?

Anyone having problems with Apple Maps ?
Absolutely unbearable on long drives , had to go back to basic paper maps as Apple Maps just says nothing or says it too late . :(

Horrible experience ruining bug in RC - Siri no longer opens apps, just continually asks me “which app would you like to open?”
this is problematic as it is my primary method of “locating” apps lol

That's probably because you did an IPSW upgrade 😉

Jokes aside: what voice command you give it exactly? Can you show a screenshot of the prompt and result?

I frequently tell it to “open [such and such app here]” just because it’s faster than actually going and swiping to the icon - IF it’s even one of the icons I can locate!

This morning no matter what app I would ask for, it would only respond by asking me “what app would you like to open?” and without ever actually opening the app I asked for.

Luckily the issue resolved itself so I can no longer screenshot that result, but it was a frustrating few hours. It’s not a bug I experienced in any previous version of iOS 26 (including the entire beta cycle) so this is new to 26.1

Hopefully it doesn’t happen again

My wife insists on doing all her software updates via ISPW method. I do all mine OTA. A while ago an Apple support tech told her to do updates and installs via ISPW method because it provides a cleaner version than OTA. This may have been the case a few years ago but not now

A lot of people with iPhones don’t have a Mac.

How can I persuade her to do OTA?
Why? If she wants to keep doing IPSW installs and it works for… let her…

Had something interesting happen to me twice now so I thought I’d ask the collective… It’s sporadic so I doubt if I can get a screenshot..

After unlocking my 17PM, (a second or 2 later), I’ve gotten a black screen with the spinning gear in the center.. like what it does when the device resprings. But instead of taking me back to the lock screen and forcing me to enter my passcode, it just takes me to the Home Screen as if nothing happened.

Anyone else had this happen? (this has happened once on db4 and now once on this RC.)

I’m gonna submit a FB but I doubt they find anything..

RC so far has been pretty good on both my 17 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max.
No major issues so far that I have found, only minor niggles here and there such as the drop in frames when swiping between the main Home Screen and Widget Screen as well as Apple CarPlay taking a little longer to launch sometimes, this seems to be an issue between CarPlay and BMW iDrive7 though.
Other than that, happiness.

This is another crappy piece of software you insist on hanging onto.
I find it faster to swipe down and open the app via Spotlight. If it’s the mode recent app used, all you have to type in is the first letter and it’s the first result.

Hmm still not able to get rid of the 12 Gb Apple AI data on my 17 Pro.
Did the whole workaround with changing the language, turning off AI… it always jumps back to the 12 Gb.
It’s a 512 Gb device so it’s not that important currently but it’s really strange.
I leave it like this. Overall the AI functions are working fine.

It sounds silly when someone else does things differently to you. It’s like when I see someone using a Samsung.

Same thing from the other side. Having someone tell you your method isn’t the popular or better option sounds silly. Breaking the mold can be a struggle but trying something new will always expand your skill set so why not give it a go?

I’ve been using OTA updates since they’ve been a thing and I can’t think of a single time I’ve had an issue a simple off/on didn’t fix.

Was talking to a friend the other day that's a full on pokemon go addict, she mentioned that after updating to iOS 26 the game is suffering from quite a lot of lag from time to time.

Anyone of you beta/RC testers Pokemon Go players? And if so, have you tried the app with 26.1RC?

I switched from OTA to IPSW during iOS 18 betas if I recall that correctly.
Some Music Settings (streaming quality over cellular for example) went missing after one update and installing the IPSW over it fixed that issue.

So yeah, OTA should be doing the same as IPSW but sometimes it doesn’t ;-)
