Thats what happens when half of apple resigns in the last week or so and go to meta. I swear apple is gonna be outta business by 2030
Yes, I’m sure apple‘s vice president of environmental policy in social initiatives is responsible for iOS development.
And yes, Apple will be out of business in less than five years because five people, four of whom are in their 60s, chose to retire or move on.
As is well known, the second most valuable company in the world and one of the most valuable for the last 15 years has entirely been ran by four boomers who were alive before the moon landing and who likely were already in college when Apple was founded.

A new way to validate your icloud??? YEA how about NO. Apple is just trying to force us to use 2fa.

  • There are signs of "a new validation system that will check the integrity of the device before logging into Apple ID and iCloud
  • ?? What on earth does that mean?? 😬
My guess is that it's either version checking iOS or double checking any third party provisioning. Third party is always the weakest link of any system's security.

If Apple had any sense, they would retire the Siri name altogether. 👵🏼

If they were smart they’d also junk the entire outdated, fundamentally flawed Siri codebase and start from scratch using modern day LLMs licensed from Google for all of the cloud based processing that the voice assistant needs to do, not just the parts of it they promised then couldn’t deliver on.

Siri is old zombie tech from more than a decade ago, prior to LLMs. So get with the program Apple and quit wasting resources trying to keep ancient, inefficient, fundamentally flawed tech alive. Rip the bandaid off and bury it like you should have years ago.

If and when Apple’s LLMs finally catch up, then migrate this new voice assistant’s cloud processing to that tech.

Why pursue an overly complex three headed monster featuring Apples tech for on-device processing, Apple’s tech in Apple’s data centers for things that can’t be done on-device, then yet another segment running in Apple’s data centers based on licensed Google tech for the cloud based processing that Apple’s tech still can’t do. Apple seems to be going from one bastardized approach to another, albeit better, bastardized approach.

I get that they have to deliver on this enhanced Siri because they’ve backed themselves into a corner so right now they don’t have time for a total re-think and redesign, but if I were Apple, I’d be aiming for that for iOS 27.4 with the goal being delivering no-later than iOS 28.0.

Good to hear about all the rumored changes. Not excited about a Health+ subscription. Checking integrity of system before logging into Apple account seems like a good security move. Waiting to hear more on the changes Apple has planned for Photos app.

Doesn't the iPhone run on Unix? That's ancient sw as well. Should they start from scratch for the OS as well?

That argument is an oversimplification because iOS runs on Darwin, not “old Unix,” and Darwin combines a modern Mach-based kernel with BSD components, continuously evolved and actively maintained. While it inherits Unix principles, those are design philosophies, not frozen 1970s code.

The kernel, security model, memory management, and hardware integration in iOS are all modern, purpose-built systems optimized for ARM, sandboxing, and secure enclaves. Calling it “old technology” is like saying modern CPUs are obsolete because they still use binary.

Classic Siri is built around:
  • Intent classification
  • Slot filling
  • Predefined action graphs
That model:
  • Scales linearly poorly
  • Requires explicit engineering for every new capability
  • Struggles with paraphrasing, ambiguity, and novelty
Apple engineers and management have known for years that this approach has plateaued. Things like improving accuracy and adding new features has became exponentially harder for increasingly diminishing returns. Yet they’ve done nothing to address the underlying issue that the model and design philosophy on which Siri is based are fundamentally flawed and it needs to be redesigned from the ground up if it’s ever going to be able to fulfill the promise of being an actual, useful virtual assistant.

Bet your device is no longer valid if you utilize a third party app store to download apps.

How about delaying these features for iOS 28 and fixing all bugs that just keep piling on...
It has been done once before, with Snow Leopard for Mac, but not since. I remember Adobe being attacked for their yearly updates, with most people agreeing 18 months was the minimum period that stopped users being essentially beta testers.

With the delay of the annual base iPhone on the agenda, this is an opportunity to press pause to do the same. It will not happen though.

Well, to be fair, it can’t be any worse than any build of iOS 18 or even through iOS 26.2. The Photos app remains destroyed, begun in iOS 18 and continued through this day, and Apple just couldn’t care less.

The health app is a pure, raging joke. More than one Apple rep has admitted to me that Apple only cares about consistency, not quality or duration of sleep, which is pure hog wash. If I’m in the bed for 8 hours, sleep for a bit over 7, but I go to bed 2 hours later on the weekend than I do during the week, it gives me a failing grade of 65 like it did last night, but it says it’s “OK”. The point that it ignored was the almost 2½ hours of REM sleep which is a higher percentage than many get. Typical adults get 20-25% of their sleep in REM, I typically get 30–40% of my sleep in REM sleep.

All of these issues tell me unequivocally that Apple has young 20-somethings writing their code, and 30-somethings managing it as product managers. These children, and let’s make no mistake they are really that, don’t have any understanding of how Sleep actually works. They are prioritizing schedules rather than quality and quantity, failing to understand that people have schedules during the week and schedules during the weekend.

In the end, Apple destroyed iOS with their fluffy liquid glass garbage that is completely unnecessary, unwanted, and wasn’t ever asked for by any customer, but the children they have riding their software won’t fluff not functionality. It’s kind of like when you ask Siri to do something and she says “uh-huh” very loud loudly. Every time I hear that I think of the Zac Brown Band singing Sic ‘em on a Chicken and I hear that accent deeply. I love the song, but Siri sucks, and it’s not going to get any better when it’s powered by Gemini which is wrong 75% of the time when you ask it something.

It’s time for Apple to hire some adults and stop letting the children run the asylum.

Tell me when you see leaks for custom launchers, an actual icon picker, or theme support. Liquid Glass has been so polarizing and Apple continues to not give people choices.
It’s polarizing only on MR. I have yet to meet one person who said the types of negative things posted on an average MR critique of iOS 26.

  • New features for AirPods, including "Precise Outdoor Location" in the Find My app.
What they need to do is stop gatekeeping Find My in the case

Why does the case cancel the ability to find them? i get sleeping while charging but man, I’d sacrifice two hours of case battery maybe to make it locatable no matter which model. Maybe turn on Bluetooth every 20 mins? IDK.
