I still don't know why Apple doesn't allow you to save a word it doesn't recognize to a dictionary or something, so you don't have to correct the same word over and over. Also I don't understand why word keyboard shortcuts don't work when you dictate something. They only work when you type but not when you type. Makes no sense to me.

And while they are at it, maybe improve dictation as well. It sucks for the most part.

I don't know if this is related, but something I've been struggling with in iOS 26 is that words will sometimes get randomly capitalized by autocomplete/autocorrect. It's really frustrating to have to go back and manually edit these words that really have no purpose in being capitalized. Is there some kind of Orange Clown mode that got turned on?

What is it? Good news week at Apple? Adults can purchase their own stuff via family sharing and now keyboard fix?

Keep it coming.

I hope that you did something about the voice to text or the dictation also.

It doesn't work since I went to 26.3.1. I'm not even able to make a full sentence before it makes up different kind of words that I didn't say , or just stop in the middle of my talk
This is maddening. It used to be so much better on iOS 18 for me. Now, Dictation just stops mid sentence, repeatedly. It’s nuts.

Next big thing to improve would be when pressing on a point you want to edit in text the point where it begins is def not where I pressed…

So, I'm not going crazy. Good to know!

Before even reading one response at first I’m like, “good, glad it isn’t just Mel lol” leaving that “Mel” for “me” typo in just to prove my point smh

Keyboard accuracy has been crap for years at this point. It used to be really good and then it sort of dropped off the cliff and I had just given up on and accepted it was going to be highly inaccurate. I feel like I first noticed it when they introduced "swipe" texting, dragging your finger from letter to letter.

Wow maybe that is when it happened. Typing has been tough for a while now…for me I want to say it began with 12pro my 8 plus was fine I think…then yeah 14 max was bad etc…

I just stuck with it this whole time because what other choice do I have? Third party software? Android?!?!???….

Right. lol

The fact it took 6 months to figure this out and fix it borderlines on pathetic.

"improved keyboard accuracy when typing quickly." - so they figured out how to make these fancy new chips they brag about keep up with....TYPING FAST. The comedy writes itself.

6 months??? I’m more like 6 years maybe more lol oh apple you crack me up

Does.it.fix.this.one.yet?

I just turned this feature off. Let’s see what’s what here. IDK…there may be a whole lot of missing periods with this smh

The keyboard has been horrendous since, what, the iphone 8 maybe? They claim to be trying to finally fix it now? What's the rush all of a sudden?

Really hope for yes this much needed keyboard fix and also adding numbers on top row just so droiders will **** and some may jump ship…

That’s a great idea def need that dictionary idea, you should submit it to them.

iPhone 4S on iOS 8 had an excellent typing experience. Couldn’t out type the keyboard input no matter how fast you were.
It’s been downhill ever since iOS 9.

How about also fixing the previously convenient option of holding down the period key to access the internet suffixes such as .com and .org.

Update: An earlier version of this article mentioned a viral video that highlighted an issue where a letter would be replaced with another when typing, but it turns out the user was using QuickPath and did not have autocorrect enabled. The video features QuickPath's intended behavior, and does not serve as an example of the issue that was fixed, but some of the comments on the video likely related to the issue that Apple did address with the iOS 26.4 update.
This is incorrect. iOS does not allow the user to enter a continuous word using a combination of tap-typing and QuickPath. If I tap out T and H, then switch to sliding between U to J, iOS will add a space and start a new word. In the video I recorded, that clearly does not happen.

Now fix how dictation works and make it capitalise the first letter in a sentence and not randomly capitalise a word mid-sentence if we edit the word. Not a big ask. It's had this issue for about seven years now.

Installed the 26.4 RC build and gave it a quick test, I'm no longer able to replicate the "thjmbs" typing issue. Will test further.

Update: I was able to replicate the "thumbs" issue on iOS 26.4 RC. It happens less often than before and typing accuracy does seem better than 26.3, but it does not completely eliminate the problems I've seen in the past.

I believe it happened somewhere between iOS 13 and iOS 15. I don't remember any issues with iOS 12 on my iPhone 5S and immediately noticed a decline with iOS 15 on my iPhone SE (same form factor, etc). I venture that iOS 18 on my iPhone 13 Mini is somewhat worse than iOS 15 was on my iPhone SE but there's a lot of variables in there.

I will finally upgrade to iOS 26 if iOS 26.4 improves the keyboard significantly.
The accuracy issue definitely happened with iOS 26, never had this many typos and issues occurring prior to iOS 26.

So does this mean:
1) they’re actually addressing the hitbox issue, where I can literally have my thumb resting on the G key but F expands next to it and
2) the GD phone won’t go two sentences back and autocorrect a correctly typed word to a completely different word that makes no sense?

The first issue was annoying enough but second has caused me to have to proofread EVERYTHING I type on my phone before I hit Send. It’s a MASSIVE PITA.

Actually, it seems better to me too. I have autocorrect enabled and I’m having good results with hitting the right letters and with corrections. Fingers crossed that it remains this way…

people saying its fixed are just a placebo. I have given up with apple and software, the star of iPadOS 26.4 Is bringing back compact tabs they removed lol
I bet they were forced to reintroduce Compact tabs because people were refusing to upgrade. This is such an amazing and unique feature that only Safari has. Boggles the mind why they removed it in first place.
