Did you happen to have adaptive power turned on? It’s usually on by default on iPhone 17 models. Regardless if you are using an iPhone 15, 16, or 17 Pro, we’ve found adaptive power to be a bit of a gimmick and not very helpful. It mainly just dims the screen and reduces the refresh rate, which doesn’t really make a difference. Even the Apple Genius agreed with me when I asked about it!
I have it turned off. Sometimes I turn it on for like 2 weeks but I've never seen any difference in battery life with it turned on or off so it's mostly turned off.

They definitely had to do something with battery life since nothing seems to help me, no hard resets, no app updates, it's still pretty bad compared to 26.3

Also I have already posted that in this thread but there's a YouTuber that keeps comparing battery life with different phones and on different system versions and he compared iOS 26.0.1 to 26.4 on iPhone 17 PRo Max and on newest iOS version, he's phone got less battery life.

12h 13min on iOS 26.0.1 and 9h 41min on iOS 26.4 is quite a big difference.
And i personally have noticed worse battery life on 26.4 and even worse on 26.5

Maybe that explains some random changes to performance I witness at times, but not had the notification saying low power mode is active on my Air yet. I’ve turned it off now.
For me, I always get the notification when it’s on, and low power mode only kicks in when the battery is really low.

However, I’m not sure if this is the case for everyone, but from what I’ve seen in this thread, even users with the same iPhone as me have mentioned that it’s not worth using. It doesn’t seem to fix anything and doesn’t make it worse.

It even affects the refresh rate, which is the most frustrating thing about it, even though I’m not using low power mode. doesn’t make sense.

Turning it off brings back the normal iPhone experience vs being locked in with all of AI junkyard mode on your battery settings !

Btw here’s a reel to watch bout the power draw of iPhone 17 vs iOS 26:

It lost 6% with low power mode & adaptive power mode off last night!

Could be many different things that's causing this.
One thing that many do forget about and that don't show up in the battery drain stats is device maintenance but also network issues/comms that could cause battery drain (BT, Wifi, Cellular, Ux chip etc)

Chat GPT summed some of it up pretty well below.

When other devices on your Wi-Fi or Bluetooth network "talk" to your iPhone, it forces the phone’s antennas to stay awake and process data, preventing it from entering a deep sleep. This constant background chatter drains the battery rapidly. [1]

How to Stop the Network Drain
1. Turn on "Low Data Mode" for your Wi-Fi
When a network is marked as low-data, your iPhone stops background tasks like automatic app updates and cloud syncing. [1, 2]
  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  • Tap the "i" icon next to your connected network.
  • Turn on Low Data Mode.
2. Turn off Local Network Access for specific apps
Some apps constantly scan your local network for other devices (printers, Chromecasts, smart TVs, or other phones), which causes massive battery drain. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
  • Review the list of apps and toggle off any third-party apps, games, or social media that don't need to communicate with devices on your Wi-Fi.
3. Turn off "Calls on Other Devices"
If you have a Mac, iPad, or another Apple device nearby, your iPhone constantly communicates with them to sync phone calls.
  • Go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices.
  • Turn off Allow Calls on Other Devices (or toggle off the specific devices you don't need).
4. Reset Network Settings
If a software glitch is causing a loop of background data packets, clearing the network cache will resolve it. [1, 2]
  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. (Note: This will erase your saved Wi-Fi passwords).

To help narrow down the exact cause of the drain, could you tell me:
  • Which apps are at the top of your Battery usage list in Settings > Battery?
  • Does the battery drain faster when you are connected to Wi-Fi at home, or when you are out on cellular data?

Very odd! Is adaptive power mode doing stuff in background all the time, maybe it knows the time iPhone spends idle during the long overnight period?

I know there’s another thing behind it: indexing.

Was your iPhone on any beta version?

From some reports iOS 27 is running better than the stable iOS 26 lol I’m hoping Apple get a move on and start back iOS 26.6! 26.5.1 isn’t great.
Honestly, the battery drain in iOS 27 beta 1 is significantly better than it was in iOS 26. When I started this thread a year ago, I was constantly stressed about how hot my iPhone got during the first iOS 26 beta like a hot potato, but that hasn't been an issue at all with iOS 27. only after the update just finished, and when indexing with the new Siri AI.

Done a test and I turned the AOD off on my Air yesterday morning and the battery improved quite a bit!

Take 30 mins off the 6h 50min that I’d used before taking it off the charger at 100%.

It's been a while since I looked at this thread, but the last few weeks had been miserable on my 16 pro max.. so I did what any software engineer does these days and worked with Claude to troubleshoot things.

A few things I've learned so far:

- if you have two apple watches, you can cause healthd to thrash trying to merge health data from the additional source (I normally roll with a Ultra 2 but throw my watch 9 on at night time with a fresh charge for sleep data - I work out daily so I have a lot of data). Giving up the second apple watch and turning off iCloud sync for health data while it repairs itself is helping quite a bit.

- Apple Intelligence - I don't think this is a surprise here, but disable it if you really don't need it. I wasn't really getting much out of the features and apparently it indexes all the time even off battery when the system is idle. It's a damned battery vampire. Turning this off has definitely helped.

- Spotlight indexing can be perturbed by other background processes and so that can be just as bad as a fresh update reindex but out of band.

I am going to continue pawing through logs to find other S/N on this stuff and see if I can get back (as close as I can) to iOS 18 behavior.

Editorial: based on the iPhone log data it's no wonder that apple has made the battery screen so useless.. There's all sorts of background activity going on constantly (like push notifications for apps) that get billed to the system instead of the app that's (ab)using them.

Iphone 15 pro max user 655 cycles 86% health, went from latest ios 18 straight to 26.5 a bit more than a week ago. The drain is quite real, phone heats up even for small things.

Youtube videos used to sip the battery in ios 18, now it chugs at double or triple the rate. Anyone else saw a big hit on their 15 PM? Hows the battery been on previous .2/3/4 releases?

Yeah, people have been complaining about the battery life difference between iOS 18 and 26 from the beginning.

You shouldn’t have updated. Triple the rate is too much though, people reported a 20% hit for the iPhone 15 and 16 series.
