i preferred the look of beta 1. it was a shock at first, but fun to use once you got used to it. beta 2 is ugly imo.
liquid glass is hideous. the control panel over liquid glass is even more hideous. beta 2 is so much better. but if liquid glass can't be completely disabled, no more iphones for me or my bros.

I find the foundational philosophy good: Lets put the content first. Glass helps in making this possible.
I tend to disagree. All the animation/visual effects coming with it create a lot of distraction that also needs to be processed by the brain. Further a lot of this animation happens in the periphery of the visual field, which causes the eye to be drawn to it.

looks like Beta 2 has more blur AND a darker overlay.
probably could have gone with either one but decided on both....it loses the glass feel now.

glad to see they are attempting to fix some issues. still not sold on the liquid glass idea

for me the control center problem is not aesthetics. it's that most of the times I use it, I hold onto something slightly too long and it pops into edit mode. very irritating.

I find it really disappointing that Apple is spending any time on Liquid Glass while we wait for over-promised Apple Intelligence features.
The team working on this wouldn’t be the same working on apple intelligence. Do you suggest no other developers I. The company should release what they are working on until apple intelligence fully releases?

It's an improvement, for sure. It'd be better if they made the background completely opaque with a gradient color representing the dominant color of what's behind it. I don't think we need to see the what's behind it it, so no blur would be necessary.
Interesting idea...do not disagree 👍

Just got the Beta 2 here. It really depends on the background. If you have all the icons in the blurred background then it looks better now. If you open the control center on a more "quiet" background, Apple could have left the version from Beta 1.
But ok all in all and: This is just the meaning of "Betas" have feedback.

I don’t like the b2 change. Watching the keynote, my first impression was that there would be readability issues. But after seeing full screen recordings of people running b1, it looked really good. I think a lot of people gave it poor feedback without ever trying it in hand. Hope they don’t leave it like it is now. Really downplays the claim of being the most significant redesign since iOS 7.

They also fixed the Safari New Tab Button when Top view is used. It now shows the "+" button at the bottom instead of the top left corner.

We don’t know that that beta 2 is a result of feedback from beta 1. Maybe it is. But I’m more inclined to believe Apple has been constantly making changes to Liquid Glass. John Gruber claims what shipped in beta 1 was the 3rd version of the design.

I hear you. My comment was based on what I’ve read and seen online. A lot of the opinions are negative, and people tend to voice negatives ones far more than complimentary. If it were a design-wide change, I’d expect to see changes to notifications and other elements that also have Liquid Glass effects. Relying on posts like this, it seems like they’ve focused the changes on Control Center.

Makes sense, on beta 1 I found most of my readability problems appeared when the overlay was over a white image.

At least that’s what I put in my feedback. I did suggest that the blur level be adjusted and possibly darken just the icons and notification bubbles a touch, not the whole background.

Bingo. They are literally creating a problem with this liquid glass direction and any "fixes" are bandaids on a flawed concept to begin with. I find it a little shocking Apple thought this was a good idea. I love Apple and Apple design for the most part, but this direction baffles me. I see some of the appeal but form and function are gonna be odds with each other here all over the place on this.

Just got trough it again. It was liquid glass in Beta 1. It is dark blurred in Beta 2 now.
It is less distracting, but moving away from the "liquid glass" idea. It generally looks like we all already know it...
I have an iPhone 16 with 18.5 and an iPhone 15 with 26 "side by side" here.

I would give you a 100 upvotes for this. The change was already way too subtle from iOS 18 to the point that I don’t even know what’s new anymore, and now it’s even less new. It’s definitely not the most significant redesign, it’s barely a facelift.

Stoopit conversation to begin with. Apple needs to address core functionality in interoperability, AI integration and more substantial api dev hooks. The rest of this 'revolutionary' semi-transparency iOS nonsense is just a distraction from fundamental deficiencies by releasing a new 'skin' and saying 'whalla!'

We went from iOS 26 back to iOS 11 real quick.

I still don't understand the shade of dark blue they use for some of the activate states of control center items in light mode and others in green. These colors are literally nowhere to be found anywhere else on iOS.
They are to be found in Settings. Green means cellular (and battery), blue all other networking.

Thanks for the side by side. I don’t understand the fuss over legibility. If you’re looking at a small screenshot, maybe. But when it’s full screen on your device, it looks great. Do you have Increase Contrast turned on?

Nope, but I did take a screenshot on Beta 1 with increased contrast on:

In all honesty, Beta 1 control center looked fresh. Here some more screenshots to remind us what we almost got to have:
