That in itself actually highlights another issue with liquid glass. While I haven't just looked at stuff from here (I've seen uncompressed screenshots and videos from friends who run the betas that exhibit the exact same issues as the ones one Macrumors), the facts that these liquid glass screenshots become illegible when lightly compressed when that was basically never an issue with prior design paradigms is yet another instance of this change resulting in overall worse outcomes.
I did have my concerns right after WWDC about legibility (and posted about that here), but also know about the compression of images I said that I need to see on my own device to make final judgement. That's why I installed the public beta on my iPad and hence my comments about a lot of posts being exaggerated.
I am visually challenged, age doesn't help but at this point I have no real legibility issues with iPad 26, on the iPhone, I might feel different but I won't install the beta there. And I might upgrade my 13PM to the 17PM and then I don't have a choice of not upgrading anyways anymore ;)

on macOS public beta 1, light mode doesn't look glassy anymore

dark mode however remains unchanged however and still looks like glass

i haven't seen this being documented

I like it. But it also makes your older phone slower. At the end of the day it forces upgrades once you see the os on a new system. Also it's just paint. Not for nothing but ios is pretty solid; not much they can do to except get that ai working proper.

I like it overall, though I have to say I wish something set the clear look off more than it does. I like the clear look for about a minute and then it starts looking black and white. Just my taste, but I wish they could do more to spruce it up gently with the native color of the app icon. The tinted icons also don’t do anything for me. Too the same.

I like it but needs to be more polished and no buggy for some cases.
I know its beta release but last years I see many bugs and unpolished thinks that are not fixed on final release.

Had to turn on Reduce Motion to prevent all the distracting distortion effects that gave me instant motion sickness; unfortunate as that option changes how you switch apps. It still doesn't disable the distortion effect on the bottom of the notification panel, which is also hideous, distracting, and sickness inducing.

With reduce motion you still get transparency but it is just frosted blur without any distortion, which is more or less just like the prior ios design system. Looks way better imho than the distorting unreadable distracting mess.

It stinks even can’t read stuff at time even after changing accessibility settings

Incredibly ugly design. What I want is a much more robust App Library similar to Android's App Drawer. Swiping up to see all apps is objectively superior to having apps all over the home screen. After 15 years they still can't get it right. What a shame!

I have an old iPhone that supports iOS 26 so I installed the public beta and honestly I think it is pretty ugly and I found myself searching for an option to turn the transparency effect down (which apparently doesn’t exist). I think I’ll be holding out on iOS 18 on my main devices for a while at least. Hopefully Apple will come to their senses and give folks the option to reduce (or increase) the transparency effects based on their personal preference.

Nice article. Like the design very much. Eagerly waiting to try it out on my devices once the final version launches.

The Clock is particularly interesting, because Apple designed it to merge more seamlessly with your wallpaper. If you use a photo wallpaper, the time readout will change in size to fit inside the empty space on the display.

I use a dark photo that includes the Milky Way as my wallpaper, and I'm eager to see what the clock makes of that. Unlike the daytime clear blue skies I've seen in the examples of the clock in the sky that MR has posted, this image has a detailed and rich sky full of stars. I'd like to see what this version of the clock does with that.

Anyone who's trying the beta have a wallpaper similar to what I described? What are your thoughts?

I’m personally loving the glass icons.

When paired with a nice wallpaper it’s great.
