Didn't work for Microsoft, is not gonna work for Apple. Too many young people eyes design it, too many old people with a lack of imagination okay it. What Apple should be doing, what everyone should be doing, and they will do it maybe, hopefully, the next time around, is make an interface that is usability genius. Easy to see, easy to use. Insanely great clarity should be the goal, especially on a small screen with an aging population, with constant changes, with constant use, with such importance. Looking nice is looking smart. Clarity might not win design awards, but at the end of the day, Apple, clarity and contrast and usabilty is gorgeous.

I am 50 years old, I don't wear glasses. I have had and iPhone since forever and I praised its UI for all the good decisions about usability.
Now the fonts are super tiny, the buttons have no contrast, it's harder to use than before. It just looks like the UI for a movie, but not a UI for real people, maybe just for people younger than 35.
What's is the point of the change?, make it pretty for YouTubers and impossible to use by regular folks?

iOS 26: Everything You Need to Know About the Liquid Glass Redesign

Honestly, what is there to "know"? I'm on the Beta right now on both iOS 26 and macOS 26. The only thing users should "know" is that it provides ZERO value to consumers and ZERO value to developers. It's just a controversial UI change, that as you use it more, you notice it less and less. Apple is investing in crap for a while now in the software field, while a whole lot of software issues that have been dragged for years now on all platforms still remain unaddressed. Apple has disappointed me once again. Both as a consumer and a long time developer.

“Some love the novelty of a fresh look, and others think that it's a usability nightmare that's almost unreadable in some situations.”

Well, I am somewhere in between, but do like the novelty. 😉

I'm loving the changed naming convention!

With quite a few old bits of Apple tech that still work, remembering all the names was getting painful. Which came earlier, later...

Now we get a year number. Yeahhhh.

How much easier will it be to remember you MacBook Air is compatible up to OS 30?

I like the idea of Liquid Glass, but why on earth is this so poorly implemented?? I mean where is the glass?
nearly all buttons should have a nice glass effect like this for standard visuals

why is this beauty just while sliding (when you can't see it because your fingers are on top)? that makes absolutely no sense.

Okay, I am going to be blunt here: It is a redesign no one asked for. They ran out of ideas and had to come up with something, anything. It's like the "new" AirPods Max, except the only new thing about them is the color.

The other day I read that Apple was no longer an innovator, they have become a cash machine. It rang true.

I don't like the absurdly large rounded window corners, especially on Mac. It's a waste of space and looks ugly to me.

A successful change/redesign can also be judged about how it makes users/customer feel. I suspect there will be a lot of people like this - they struggle (or at least, take a lot longer) to read the UI, but having to turn on an accessibility option just to be able to use the device day-to-day will make them feel older and subconsciously put them off.

Nobody asked for change except the forum nerds that probably aren’t even 1% of Apple’s customers. Still I understand they have to make a change at some point but it shouldn’t be a complete overhaul in my opinion. iOS looks quite timeless good.

I've used every version of iOS since the og iPhone in 2008 and liked every iteration until now. The design of iOS 26 is horrendous. It isn't even the "glass" look to everything that irks me, but rather all the UI changes that make things more difficult to access and far less intuitive. Honestly no idea what is happening with Apple here, but I feel like this does not bode well for the future.
Lack of leadership vision, "decide by committee" crap, and lack of compliance with Apple's own longtime UI guidelines. Nothing else, really.

The App Icons screenshot illustrates nicely how little sense this makes. The most important requirement for icons and widgets is to be designed in a way that they can be recognised at a quick glance. But all the information is lost on the transparent ones.

Even though some people have had negative things to say about iOS 26, I love it so far and know it will only get better. I'm really looking forward to the final release.
Do you have at least a few photos from real life that prove how the new design works outdoors?

I've noticed that all the proponents of the design only ever “test” it in front of their computers and then praise it.

I'm still waiting for people to go outside, into the sun, and take photos of the great new transparent design, which also Apple only shows with a dark background.

Don't update. Problem solved.
Because Apple is just as customer friendly as Microsoft and updates multiple systems at the same time?
Oh right, Apple has already admitted that they leave anyone who doesn't use the latest operating system in the lurch.

So what do we choose:
the new unusable design (at least there are still no photos from the real world)
or do we expose ourselves to security vulnerabilities and hackers?

It's unbelievable what level we've reached and how ignorant people like you are in defending Apple.
A growth-driven corporation that doesn't give a damn about you personally.

Well, iOS 18 will be getting security updates for a while after iOS 19 (or 26 if we want to call it that) is released. Even iOS 15 got a security update not long ago - it was version 15.8.4, which was released on March 31 2025. I use my SE 1st gen running iOS 15 whenever I get sick of carrying around the brick phablet Apple calls "iPhone" 14 Pro. The only thing I can't use anymore is HomeKit, everything else works which is nice because iOS 15 is legacy at this point. I'm not defending Apple, just trying to sooth your pain with an option, you know? Personal attacks get you banned real quick around here, take care.

It’s not an unusable design though. Many people have been using it for a few weeks.
