I'm just learning of the preferred route feature. I typically use Waze, but have been wanting a preferred route option for a very long time. I guess I'm an Apple Maps user now. I'm excited to see how well it works. My preferred route to/from work avoids the interstate, but is 5 minutes longer, so no GPS wants to direct me to go that way. It will be awesome if Apple Maps does what I want it to.

It works well…and even tells you on the screen when other options are listed which one is your preferred route based on history.

That's awesome. I have hit traffic 3 times this week, so I'm really hoping to have a better solution. This sounds like it might be it once I get it trained a bit.

My map never takes on such a third person view. It's always top-down. Is there a setting to change for that? I couldn't find one.
No, this is just normal camera view while navigating. My view is only top-down when driving on a highway in heavy traffic or when about to make a turn.

Can you share a screenshot of what you see?

I don't. It just sounds like the normal way the software runs. I'd prefer it not be top-down so much, but I guess I can't control that.

As long as you are driving fast enough, it should move to “3D” view automatically.

As G1 said, it only moves to top down with slow to no movement or if approaching a turn so you can see the street better, especially when in close sequence to other possible turns.

Gotcha. My commute is mostly rural and then when I get back to civilization, I slow way down. Maybe I just need to see it on different roads. I've basically never used Apple Maps before. Thanks for the help.

CarPlay. It's a cheap, external screen with a rather square ratio. I'm not sure if the ratio matters.
It’s possible. CarPlay, and Apple Maps in particular, resize and orient themselves automatically based on screen size. And sometimes, third party external screens don’t communicate or cooperate properly.

It doesn't seem like it's doing anything wrong (based on what I know). It just felt like I was missing a setting or something, but based on the replies I've seen in here probably not.

How long does it take for Apple Maps to show a problem on a preferred route? Since downloading iOS 26, I haven’t seen any issues on my preferred routes.

For instance, over the weekend, roadwork on the highway forced me to drive in the opposite direction, making me late for work.

I wonder why these route lines looking weird on the road happens at these random locations. It happens consistently on these roads, too.
