I'm more annoyed that Apple is bent on putting ads in their maps app and maps search. I remember a time when Apple was 100% opposed to invasive ads. Now it's one of their cash cows.
In my opinion, Apple is going down the wrong path. This is not what most Maps users want. Aside from the USA, I don't see where Apple could make money from advertising in Maps. In my opinion, it’s necessary to first convince iOS users to use Maps. Apple needs to promote its application more, but for that, it requires the New Map Data in more countries and the DCE in more cities. The pace of the rollout for these two features is still too slow. Additionally, there should be a more effective reporting system, as it often takes time and is not always corrected. How does Apple expect to convince businesses to pay for advertising on Maps when their data is much less reliable than Google's?

Apple is NOT putting “ads” in Maps.

They are simply taking money for priority parsing in search. No different than what you see when searching apps in the App Store today.

I think it will actually be a good thing as it will require business to provide updated POI info and/or pay to be featured at the top of the search list.

"The system is said to be similar to Search Ads in the App Store, which allows developers to pay to have their software appear in a promoted slot above other results for relevant queries. Apple's approach reportedly leverages AI to deliver relevant and useful results, in a better interface than similar offerings from Google and other companies. Gurman warned that the move risks some amount of consumer backlash."

I guarantee it will cause backlash with this user. Google Maps, Waze and others will become my map of choice.

They’ve had this for years!! I left Waze for commuting 10 years ago when their stupid promoted places started filling up my actual map.

Just like the App Store, I expect a “promoted” business or two at the top if I do a general search. No different than Amazon, Google…everyone else! I’ll swipe on by…or take a look.
