How do you know it's fake? Why don't you do some research instead of watching and believing everything you see and hear on the mainstream news and social media. Where do you think all this technology and AI stuff is leading us? We will become the iphone when the chip is implanted inside of us and we won't have a say as to whether or not we want it. Then only will you know that you've been deceived all your life.
Yep. Here we go. Chip implanted? LOL. Sell your iPhone. Just sit and watch Newsmax all day. It’s better for you right?

So tell me, how does the implanted chip get power?
Why implant a chip when facial recognition can do the same thing at half the cost?

If YOU want to live in caveman times keep it to yourself. Don’t force the rest of society to live the way you want to. Go buy some plot of land in the middle of nowhere and live like a caveman if you want.

Uhhh, make sure you’re who you say you are and don’t use someone else’s ticket to fly with?

Passports are just very convenient for that when you lack any universal document in the states
Ah, so they get everyone to line up and go through an extra process for credit card fraud? Seems unnecessary to me unless the real reason is someone wants to track where people are moving about.
Australia is already a police state where the police know where you are at all times, but we move through airports without ID.

On our last flight, with boarding pass in Apple wallet, the flight tracker did not show on the lock screen. Is that in future update?

Everyone realize that this is ONLY for domestic travel, right?

"Digital IDs do not replace physical passports, and Apple warns that they cannot be used for international travel or border crossings."

So what's the point? Don't most people have a driver's license or a state issued ID?

Not everyone has the REAL ID version of their state ID cards/driver licenses. With the deadline imposed on May 7, most MVD offices around me were extremely busy and overrun with people scrambling to get that ID. Since we have current US Passports, we opted not to replace our drivers licenses until the current license expire in 4 and 5 years, respectively. I am sure we are not alone in our decision.

Ah...

I appreciate enlightening me on this topic. I did not realize many people have not had REAL ID yet.

But for the majority of travelers, this will likely have not much of an impact.

I've had Arizona's digital ID since it came out a few years ago though I never had an occasion to use until this summer, when Apple Wallet support spurred me to try it at PHX Sky Harbor Airport. It didn't scan so I had to show the old plastic card ID. If the passport is anything like that, there will be bugs to work out. I have to renew soon, so we'll see how that goes.

The iOS 26 RC is out and I still don’t see how you can add your passport or passport card to the wallet. Am I missing something or does this still not work?

It's not yet available. Apple does that a lot. They announce things at WWDC that may not make it into the OS until .1, .2 or later releases.

It's a very smart decision. You can also get a passport card to serve this purpose. It is superior in quite a few ways to state-issued IDs:
  • It is conclusive proof of citizenship, identity and age.
  • It doesn't have your address on it.
  • It's only $60 for ten years of validity and can be renewed by mail.
I have one and use it in every context where ID is required except when actually operating a motor vehicle (where obviously you need to have a drivers' license).
