This is kind of a catch-all overview. Better than 26.x but …. 🙄

iPhone Air - overall not a bad beta. Definitely not the worst. It is good enough IMO for daily driver UNLESS you use Safari heavily and use apps like Docusign.

Biggest issues:
1. Car Play - Have had a couple of disconnects. YouTube Music will randomly stop working until I restart on device. Using on 2026 Chevy Colorado. The PU recently had a couple of major system updates so that may be part of the issue. Also, on device Google Maps is Dark but on the infotainment screen it is in light mode. Apple Maps shows the correct shading.
2. Safari. Tabs freezing, tab reloading, and video crashing. Been a pita.
3. Device randomly gets warm for no apparent reason. Example: watching TV and reach over to pick up the Air to loook up something. Device is warm. Odd.
4. Messages - spell check or suggested words will stop working. Area just goes blank. Close and open brings it back.

iPad Pro 11 M4 - Overall a pain. I predominantly use this as a consumption device.
1. Video crashes. YouTube, Prime, Peacock Plus, etc…. Be watching and it freezes. Then a few seconds later the app closes. On restart is has no idea where I was.
2. Safari is a mess. Same as the Air but happens more frequently.
3. I use my iPad with the Apple Magic Keyboard. At times the device just stops using or acknowledging the MKB. I have to undock and redock to get it to rediscover the MKB. This also occurs when I connect the Apple Pencil to the iPad for recharge.

Other items.
AirPod Pro 3 - will randomly switch from NC to Transparency. Have to go into BT to reset.
AirPod Pro 3 - will rest to 80% max charge each time after I charge the case and buds to 100%. Then it asks me if I want to charge to 100% - even if they are already > 80%.
Apple Pencil Pro - The pencil function can cause odd effects. App freeze, Music pause, Annotation sometimes just won’t work.
Siri is better mostly than before but still does some really dumb stuff.
Spell Check and Grammar Check still suck. In this post, it flagged predominately and suggested predominate. Then after changing it via the suggestion, it immediately suggested predominately. WTF?

Are you comparing 26 beta to 27 beta or 26 release to 27 beta because it’s not a fair comparison if that’s the case as it’s not polished yet and not optimized and logging everything.

I was comparing 26 release to 27 beta. I wasn't saying it's a fair comparison, I know very well 27 beta is not optimized. But people often want to know how much battery they "lose" if switching from release to beta, which is what I answered. It's totally expected to be that way, and I was giving that information.

My iPhone Air seems to be getting hotter by the day this beta. I had to turn it off and leave it off until it cooled down because force-closing apps and restarting the device didn’t help the problem.

I also have my iPhone 17 Pro Max randomly heat up with this beta. Usually when it starts doing that I need to restart as it will be getting worse and worse, and drain the battery.

I think it may have something to do with location services, but not sure what exactly, as not all apps do it.

Weird, I’ve had none of these problems on B4 apart from running a bit warmer and battery life not being great, which is normal for a beta as they are still logging. I did have a few of these issues on B3 such as the Apple Pencil Pro not working correctly but B4 fixed them. iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPad 11” M5 Pro (with Magic Keyboard).

My iPhone 17 got very warm one time with (seemingly) nothing running. I did a hard reboot and it hasn't happened again so far.

It's the only time I've had this issue in any of the previous 26 and 27 betas. It's quite impressive, really.

iPhone 16 Pro, has the same symptoms, let's see if beta 5 fixes all these bugs!!

My screen time is high currently because I'm nursing an injury that requires me to be completely out of the sun in July, but dang this battery life is atrocious.

Roughly 4 hours off the charger, 2 hours of screen time and I’ve lost 2/3 of my battery for the day.

It’s been a trend. I partially charged my phone 3x last night because I kept hitting 20% unexpectedly.

One week into beta 4 and I've had no issues. My battery life has been great, the battery discharged ~50% in ~50 hours. No overheating issues, no crashes. My phone panicked once while running beta 3 due to a memory tagging fault but beta 4 has been perfect.

I’ve also been having the warm up issue. For no apparent reason. 16Pro. Sometimes while I’m using it, other times when it’s just been sitting on my desk doing nothing.
This is also happening on iOS26 on my 17 Pro. I can use my phone, it's in normal temperature, I stop using it, lock it, come back to it after 5 minutes and it's warm like it's processing something in the background even though I have background refresh turned off.

I was hoping iOS27 would fix it, so let's hope they can get rid of it with the RC release in September.

The dark Maps is a separate setting within CarPlay settings (not on the phone, but on the vehicle display). Typically the Maps color will stay light if vehicle headlights are off and turn dark when they are on. You can override this setting and force it to show dark maps all the time on the vehicle display by enabling the toggle in the settings. It was this way in iOS 26 (and 18 and prior)

I've had a few disconnects as well (wired), but it only seems to happen if I am not playing any media. If I am playing something, it works just fine.

2. Safari. Tabs freezing, tab reloading, and video crashing. Been a pita.

I've had a lot of reloading (betas in the past behaved this way) but haven't seen any freezing or crashing. Checked your Extensions?

4. Messages - spell check or suggested words will stop working. Area just goes blank. Close and open brings it back.

Also seen this one and it seems to happen anywhere the keyboard is called, not just Messages (but I notice it most there)

I've had issues with AirPods Pro 3 taking a long time to connect after putting them in ears, on 26 it was damn near instantly but now it takes 10-15 seconds sometimes (randomly it will connect immediately) and it almost always happens when in the middle of a phone call (yes AirPods are on the beta firmware as well)

Yep that’s correct 👍

I realized today that the glass components seem to actually have live reflections happening on the left and right all the time. This back button is tiny, but you can still see the warped edges of the letters e and n.

If this is intentional, then that’s a pretty crazy attention to detail!

For my Galaxy the control that allows me to change map light/dark/auto is in the config on screen.
For the Air, it isn’t there for GMaps. I have it set to dark on the Air.
As for headlights, mine are set to auto (default unless I manually change them every time I start the PU) with DT running lights always on.

If anyone else has a newer Gen 3 Chevy Colorado and it works for them, let me know. For now I’ll wait and see what B5 offers unless I see or run into a fix.

Thx!

I tried iOS 27 for the first time and, being in Ireland which doesn’t get all the new Siri stuff, I find it very underwhelming Indeed.

It would be difficult for me to notice the difference between the new beta and iOS 26. I think in Europe, where we don’t get all the new Siri stuff, the update won’t be that big a deal at all come September.

I use pb2 with an iPhone Air and it seems that even tho it’s a beta it’s more stable than any other iOS version I’ve ever used, am I the only one who had this experience
