By the time you release the actual product, nobody even cares anymore after you’ve strung them along for years. The Apple Intelligence excitement fizzled out in 2024. People have moved on and now Apple is stuck with Gemini / ChatGPT. I welcome (beg for) bug and QOL fixes over unfinished beta nonsense.

Apple got their wrist slapped for deceptive advertising in 2024 to drive sales of the iPhone that year as there was not much else new on the iPhone. The iPhone is to the point of maturity and the big "NEW "is a shiny button or re-arrangement at the top of the screen accomplished in software.

So, in the last two years we have progressed from vaporware to a limited beta software product.

My thinking is that to be operational, it will be the iPhone 18 with 16GB of memory and 2TB of storage to get a crawling slowly Siri product which many folks do NOT want.

We know we are two years behind schedule on the AI features we announced, but we heard you like kitties. How about a Snow Leopard and no new features?

Does that mean you are fixing the bugs?

Now let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I don’t see anywhere it says about being behind a paywall, just that you may have to go on a waitlist. They did the same thing for Apple Intelligence at first and never charged for it. I wouldn’t be surprised if some features were added as a benefit of iCloud+, but I think the basic features would remain free. Tim Cook and others have said previously that they see Apple Intelligence as an additional feature and something that would be included with no additional charge. Maybe that will change under John Ternus, I guess we will see.

I suggest keeping your powder dry and not spend a dime with Apple this year. Perhaps a serious drop in revenue might get their attention in the front office to tell the truth for a change.

Perhaps the truth is Siri will never work as talked about and there is a scramble to figure out what bovine byproducts to tell the customer base and try to tickle cash out of their pockets by slight of hand.

from how I read Gurman in all his posts it looks like none of the new SIRI/AI functionality is coming in the first beta...
I mean of course not, its been pushed back two years. Why would they suddenly predict it would be available in the beta? It might be...since its apparently been in active development for years, but I wouldn't expect anything. Apple AI required a waitlist, and after that was a nothing burger, I don't think there is any concern about this being delayed or gate keeped.

Apple is so far behind on everyday AI (thanks Eddy Cue), that Anthropic, Open AI, and Gemini have completely run away with the prize. And unlike a slightly different phone, camera, battery, app, screen, laptop, etc, Apple can't even begin to differentiate or sell benefits of any AI they may possible conjure up last minute.

So this is just a game of who will Apple pay most for AI integration, and how much will Apple charge us for it. I will continue to evolve my AI use without Apple's direct contribution to it. It's sad to see Apple amazing hardware and chips get underutilized alongside Apple's long-running AI failures. This waitlist is just a gimmick that attempts to sell the notion that there's excess demand, some constraint, or even a coherent strategy.
