26.2.1 and I still sometimes get a blank screen with nothing to do when Face ID doesn't recognize my face.
They were too busy changing that new highlight on the icons THREE TIMES because it looked terrible.
Or changing those opaque transparencies in menus because they realized too late that light gray font on semi-translucid is impossible to read.
Or... ok, I could spend my whole day just listing those absurdly stupid features.

We’ve been getting releases with little to no new features every year for at least a decade. The only difference with snow leopard is that despite the meagre number of changes the code quality and polish has only worsened. Apple is just not good at software anymore. It matters not how few new features there will be, iOS 27 will probably be just as unstable, buggy and inconsistent.
Yes….it boggles my mind that each your everyone is please no no features etc….i mean come on. It’s not like we get many new features as it is!

No. Just refine it.
Thanks.
I would agree to my own surprise. LG is just ok and I am one who can bare with it.

I think it would have gone a bit better "if" when they released it, it did not have all of what would be considered sloppy design that they have been slowly fixing since launch with each version release: Like overlapping text or LG can't read clearly due to glass look etc. It just looked like it was half backed when released and Apple decided to just fix it along the way.

"If" it was polished a little more or left in the oven more...maybe not all of the cries and hate (or at least not as much).

A big improvement to the keyboard would be to put the damn number keys as another row above the letters. Why in the hell is this not a thing or even an option? I’ll never know.

I could understand Apple not doing it when phones were 3.5”, but here we are with a massive 6.9” screen, and I still have to tap a button to show the number keys. Even 3rd-party keyboards have the numbers on top with plenty of room to spare above. Apple needs to sort this out.

Re-re-re design the Photos app. I swear to God I can't work it, the only time I ever seem to get frustrated is when I'm trying to find an album or just videos etc. 🤣

Knew we were getting a Snow Leopard-style release next.
Snow Leopard was no better than most other OSes UNTIL the .8 release. It launched with a bug that deleted all user data (if you logged into the guest account); two point releases had to be pulled and re-released because of critical flaws; the .7 update broke OpenType fonts; and networking to Windows servers was a mess until the final release.

It took 2 years to get good; and of course that's now 2 x the OS cycle.

Good, this is what we want. Make the software rock solid stable, add real usability to Siri, and while they’re at it, move to new hardware released on a bi-annual schedule. The YoY changes to hardware are way too small, and the software has become bloated and buggy.

Isn’t that what the rumors were for one of the more recent rounds of updates, like iOS 18? That didn’t happen. I’m not sure we’ll ever get a bug fix release again, as Apple software is now dictated by the marketing people, not the development teams. Every yearly release is essentially a marketing hype burst to promote the brand.

What Messages updates are they going to include to get the masses to update? Although Siri that is competent might just do it (Gemini is already pretty impressive).

I’m all for a Snow Leopard year. I really like Liquid Glass on iOS (it’s got a LONG way to go on macOS) and certainly don’t want to go back to stale, let me take a 1/4 if the UI up with controls, iOS 18.
