Issues installing GM on both Windows and Mac. Error 1013.

have you checked your hosts file? tiny umbrella adds a reference for gs.apple.com every time you use it and therefore wont authorise the firmware installation, not sure if thats same thing but ive read 1004 is the error you get for currently signed firmware (ie 4.1) and 1013 for beta or non current official builds.

If it is in there delete the refernce or stick a # at the beggining to comment the line out.

Anyone else notice that you can assign a unique text tone to each contact (instead of a single general one)

I gave up assigning custom tones ages ago because I found those prefs weren't being sync'd to mobileme.

I might give it a try now..

You know, while that's a BIT better than the previous implementation, how difficult would it have been for Apple to allow true customization (without jailbreaking) by allowing us to actually make a tone WE would want to use a la my 1990's vintage Nokia?
It's crap like this that frustrates me about Apple's whole "Outer Limits" model (for those of you old enough to remember, "Do not touch the knob... WE are in complete control...").:(

Installed iTunes 10.1 beta 2 on my Mac and restored my iPhone to 4.2 and got Error 1013. Used iRecovery to get the phone out of recovery mode and rebooted. Works great, seems a little faster than before. I did notice my baseband is unchanged. Still at 2.10.04

Agreed . . . I was just thinking how sad it is that I got excited about a feature I had with my Motorola RAZR. Although, the RAZR was a hell of a phone.

airplay for the iphone

do you need to turn on airplay on the iphone? I cant seem to find it on the GM release

Is anybody else having the same issues as me?

Downloaded the 4.2 GM release
Install using 'restore and alt'
The software installs but iTunes fails to pull it from recovery mode

I have tried dowloading the iTunes 10.1 beta 2 links and they just download 10.0.1 - what is that all about?

I have tried tineumbrella - that doesn't pull the iPhone out of recovery after 4.2 but will in 4.1

What do I have to do?

downloaded iTunes beta and iOS 4.2GM using Vista.

Everything worked great. This version is a lot faster and more "zippy" than 4.1. Now let's see if the battery problem is solved.

I see no airplay button anywhere will it only show up when it has recognised another idevice that is airplay compatible? eg: apple tv

Is the calendar blank list glitch fixed with 4.2?

The problem I'm referring to is when I reboot my phone, the list view of the calendar is blank until I switch to a different view.

Thanks!

The airplay button doesn't appear on my iPhone or my iPad. I'm not at home by my Apple TV, so I'm assuming it needs to be in the vicinity for it to appear. Can anyone confirm this?

Airplay and brightness control and facetime

select a track and new symbol to right of fast forward/next track button allows you to select iphone or aTV select atv and the sound is sent to apple tv. no video yet as atv needs update.

on macrumours it shows brightness control in multitask mode - i dont see this but to left of multitask have volume slider and option for airplay - not bothered but wondered.

switched facetime back on and can call phone from imac but never connects. cant call from phone to imac. could well be my internet connection as its dodgy.

can't find my printer which is connected by ethernet to router which is wifi and ethernet to imac. again probably need to fiddle

Windows 7 domain AirPrint problems

I've got it printing to a printer shared from a Windows 7 box using the Beta of iTunes (I didn't want to put 10.6.5 beta on my main machine!) - it works really well although as the machine is on a domain I have to log in each time to print. I think there is a way around that but as it's only temporary (once 10.6.5 is released I'll share it from my Mac) I haven't bothered investigating further

It only works with printers that have built-in support for AirPrint unless you share the printer though a computer. To print directly to a printer requires drivers, and I guess Apple don't want to have to support a myriad of drivers on their portable devices. This way, they have a single "driver" (AirPrint) and it will work either directly with a printer that supports it or through a computer where they can implement AirPrint for communication to the iPhone / iPad and use the OS drivers to talk to the printer. It's a pretty elegant solution really

I'm trying to use AirPrint on a windows 7 machine on a domain. It requires a username and password as I cannot seem to turn password protection off on a domain machine. Guest accounts active.

No matter what username and password combo I give domain\username, localmachine.domain\username etc it always fails.

What format are you using for AirPrint username and password on the windows share?

Will updating to the GM void my warranty? Secondly, can I overwrite the gm with the final when it comes out?

well it will only void it until the official release comes out.

the official release usually is the same build. the only difference was with 4.0 where they took game center out if i remember rightly

Thanks, guess I will wait then.

there's no harm in it, i'm running it on my devices ok, and if anything goes wrong, just wait until monday/wednesday (when 4.2 may be out) and take it in the apple store, as they'd be none the wiser as it's going to be the same build. your warranty will only be invalid until 4.2 is officially released then it stands again,

Tried user@localdomain ?

Yes, 4.2 has fixed this on my phone. It takes about a second for the calendar to populate the info when you first open the app, but after that, it works great.

Confused about Airprint

Hi, i have 4.2GM installed , i have a Network based samsung laser printer and a USB connected to XP laser printer.
Both my mac (10.6.4) and the XP box have the new beta iTunes.
its been said earlier that:

And this:
If you're using Windows then iTunes 10.1 will enable AirPrint. AirPrint will only print directly to certain AirPrint compatible HP printers (there are currently only 3). For all other printers you have to have the computer on to print to them. Your computer basically turns into an expensive print server.

but then this:
AirPrint will work with any printer shared on your Mac. You will need Mac OS X 10.6.5 for AirPrint support though.

my ipad on the same WIFI network will not see either of them, the larger Network based printer, or the USB printer connected to our front counter machine (which is sharing via windows printer sharing)

So as there is conflicting information, I ask that people who have the Airprint working state that printers and OS they are using and if any special tricks are needed?

Or maybe its just that Apple dont like samsung :)

Persistent Wifi

Wonder if the persistent wifi issues are resolved in 4.2? Still having wifi issues from time to time where coming out of sleep mode, wifi shows its on but never connects. Switching wifi off/on always fixes it.
