I miss orientation lock being so easy to use, now its double click, swipe, tap, tap. A system sounds only mute is not very useful for me.

Does anyone know if this updates fixes the battery drain introduced with iOS4? I'm not sure what causes the drain but it looks like the iPod Touch is keeping Wifi active in sleep mode. So a pref to turn off wifi when in sleep mode should fix that.

I would love to know about this as well. On the plus side, I haven't read any griping about poor battery life... at least not yet, not on this site.

Don't worry, if there is any griping, you can be sure that you will find it here...

Actually, I read a post on another threat earlier today that suggested that battery life was amazing (sorry, too busy to find the link).

Was thinking the same thing. It might make car dvd players relevant again. How bout it 'airplay' to the car's video screen through the stereo?
As long as a single car video screen costs about three times as much as an iPad, I see little for people to buy them instead of an iPad.

Maybe for one child families - but with 3 kids, I'm not gonna buy 3 iPads. Agree with you though. Auto manufacturers are quite proud of their offering built-in video. The price needs to come down.

No difference it streams the digital file unmixed. So it depends on the file not the device sending the file.

So if the movie is originally iTunes synced for iPhone it will be less resolution than the one that was synced for iPad. iTunes doesn't allow the higher iPad resolution movie files to sync onto iPhone. It downsamples to the device. Hence the iPhone stream to ATV2 will be lower resolution than iPad streaming to ATV2.

--- EDIT ---
To clarify, I'm asking if iPhone is a lower resolution stream than iPad. If anyone can verify, much appreciated.

The new SMS tones are astonishingly horrible. Like, I don't know what Apple was thinking horrible. First of all, they are all wayyyy too long. It's already annoying enough to hear peoples' phones constantly chirping and dinging as they have text-message conversations, but can you imagine how irritating these long, protracted tones will be? Argh, I'm mystified as to what they were thinking.

Too true. These new excessively long and obnoxious tones are awful. Instead of introducing new annoying tones, they should have given people the ability to create their own.

The point is to bring back the days of "take a DVD over to a friend's house to watch it there." (Funny how we lost that bit of convinience in this online video revolution.)

Um, nothing got lost. You've always been able to do it as long as you had an iphone or ipod in your pocket and an AV cable.

The new SMS tones are only for the iPhone 4.

that's quite a let-down. I can see how the update to the HD picture taking ability was only for iPhone 4, since maybe it's tied to hardware somehow, but how/why is a sound for text messages restricted to iPhone 4? That's purely a software thing, and I can't see that slowing down the system on iPhone 3G/3GS.

Group MMS

This update added "Load Earlier Messages" to group messaging. A huge improvement for my friends and me who use this feature a lot. Good deal.

Also, new text tones suck. Bad.

I think the update is really pointless for my iPod Touch 2G. I can't even search Safari! That was like the only thing I was looking forward to!

It's called planned obsolescence. The same reason you can't find text in Safari on anything but a 4 (not sure about the 3GS).

And that's the reason I jailbreak my iPod. Multitasking (activated with my jailbreak) works really smoothly in my opinion.
