It's just delicious listening to all the 3GS owners bitching over a lack of Find My iPhone. Come on guys, It's not current hardware - you all said to us 3G owners. :p

Please link and quote the post where a paid working feature on the 3G was offered free on the 3GS and you got told it wasn't current hardware.

BTW, if it's free for iPhone 4 users, it should be free for every user that has a supported device, including the iPhone 3G and the 3GS.

now that 4.2 is out and an unlock for basband 02.10.04 is ready, when will it be released for ios 4.1 users on the iPhone 4?

Further devaluing MM for paid users.

Interesting point. I hadn't thought of it that way. My MM account subscription has to be renewed in December. I'd let it go but I've become so dependent on my .mac (.me, too, I guess) email address. I guess that's what they want. I have hope that the new data center/cloud stuff will in some way enhance the MM subscription.

Back on topic, may I ask a dumb question without getting flamed? Will 4.2 allow me to send music from my iPhone to an Airplay device without being in a network? For example, if I was in a room with only my iPhone and one of those new Airplay-friendly receiver/amps - and there is not an iTunes computer library in sight - could I send the music to the receiver/amp from my phone? Thanks for anyone who can answer, and for putting up with what may be a simple question.

Any new features for iPhone 4 using 4.1?

As a former iPhone 3G owner who saw the usability of the device get dismantled slowly after every software update, I'm afraid to update unless there are clear and obvious benefits to doing so.

I can't see why I would want to install this software which they have clearly had problems with!

Find My iPhone

Anyone got Find My iPhone working? I tried updating and reinstalling. But it still asks me for a MobileMe account. My expired account isn't working.

*Any* software has tons of bugs while developed - Apple has, in this case, been reassuringly delaying the release, hence a reason *more* to trust this release.

I really don't get your paranoia.

You'd be singing a different tune if you still had an iPhone 3G.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Is it jailbroken yet?

Hmm, now that they are giving away Find My iPhone I know have one less major reason to keep MobileMe.

Really I am only using it for calendar syncing which I can do with other services. Unless they finally start integrating iDisk into iOS as some kind of cloud storage.

is it the same build of the 4.2.1 GM? (i.e. 8C148)
dunno why, but I'm not able to log with me apple ID to enable the free find my iPhone. I've the same problem on my iPhone 4 and on my iPad.

I would think of free find my iPhone on current hardware as a "one year trial" so to speak... except they are still selling the 3GS. So it is just another way to incentivize staying current with the hardware.

8C148 according to Jason Sneils Twitter so same as the GM.

I wasn't questioning the 3G usability. I was questioning the fact that the user didn't trust this release because it's been delayed. To me, that's a reassuring factor.

Alright, then I'd tend to agree with you, although until it's December, it's no delayed. Amazing how many people forget no actual date was given.

There is still nothing saying that airprint is now only supporting HP airprint printers.

"AirPrint makes it simple to print email, photos, web pages, and documents right from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. A few taps is all it takes to go from viewing it onscreen to holding a printed copy. There’s no software to download, no drivers to install, and no cables to connect."

Does the Find My iPhone App come with the download as I just installed the App and it's asking for username and password?
The FMi app needs to be downloaded and installed/synced to another iOS device of yours, I suppose Apple is releasing some kind of web version to free users as well, or else people that own only one device will get screwed.

For the device to be located, you just need to set up like an MobileMe account on the device, which is in the Mail/Calendar settings, no individual app required.

Just read the Apple press release.

Disappointing:

"*The free Find My iPhone feature is available for iPhone 4, iPad or new iPod touch (4th generation)."

From the press release:

AirPrint is a next-generation Wi-Fi print architecture that dramatically simplifies printing by completely eliminating printer drivers. A selection of AirPrint enabled printers including the HP Photosmart, HP LaserJet Pro and HP Officejet will be the first to support printing direct from iOS devices. iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users can simply tap to print their documents or photos wirelessly to any printer that supports AirPrint.
