Ah ok. Somehow I missed this the first time reading through the thread. >_<
There was some confusion, people were reporting on Twitter that it was available but it never was!

Once again, why would someone vote "Negative" for this thread???
Uh, iPhone 3GS and not being eligible for free Find my iPhone ? That's a blatant reason right there.
Don't you think Apple employs the device serial number? In such case they would limit it to just the desired generation of devices.
Would you like a tissue?Uh, iPhone 3GS and not being eligible for free Find my iPhone ? That's a blatant reason right there.
But is that confirmed yet? (see Update 2 to the original MR article)
*The free Find My iPhone feature is available for iPhone 4, iPad or new iPod touch (4th generation).
Would you like a tissue?
Or, better yet, hold off the moaning until we see how this really works.
But is that confirmed yet? (see Update 2 to the original MR article)

So you're saying you won't wait until it goes live to see how it works. Okay. What part of reading the PR did you not understand ?
I'm not able to log with me apple ID to enable the free find my iPhone. I've the same problem on my iPhone 4 and on my iPad.
What about 4.2.1?
I was running GM 4.2 on an iPhone 4 then there was 4.2.1 - do I need to redownload 4.2 to get 4.2.1 on my iPhone?
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)
Rejoice. Also is it called 4.2 or 4.2.1
Why is that negative? People that have newer hardware get better services.
Once again, why would someone vote "Negative" for this thread???
People who haven't spend a dime on iOS in a year or more (ie: 3G, 3GS owners, non-Mobile me subscribers) are "outraged" at not being handed a free feature that they were never promised, or even expected.
Yep, THAT, is Macrumors.
Look at the press release :
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/11/22ios.html
Confirmed ? It's been there since the announcement went live. And no, registering an account from a friend's device is not the same.
What part of reading the PR did you not understand ?
Yes. See Apple press release which says:
"*The free Find My iPhone feature is available for iPhone 4, iPad or new iPod touch (4th generation)."
MacRumors Article said:Apple's newly-updated Find My iPhone setup page suggests, however, that current-generation hardware is only required to set up an Apple ID for access to the service, with the actual service potentially then being available on all iOS 4.2-compatibile hardware:
Create a free Find My iPhone account on any iPhone 4, iPad, or iPod touch (4th generation) running iOS 4.2. Once you create an account on a qualifying device, use your Apple ID and password to enable Find My iPhone on your other devices running iOS 4.2.

iPhone only.
So you're saying you won't wait until it goes live to see how it works. Okay.
Love the people criticizing the new free service. Love it.
Previously paid only feature, minimum $99 a year cost, is now suddenly free for customers who buy current generation products.
Staggering, but not at all surprising, that this isn't "good enough" for some of you.
Just to further clarify. People who haven't spent a dime on iOS in a year or more (ie: 3G, 3GS owners, non-Mobile me subscribers) are "outraged" at not being handed a free feature that they were never promised, or even expected.
