This is normal for software development, point upgrades rarely introduce anything major, they're bug fixes and tweaks. Undoubtedly we'll see something "major" in iOS 5, it just remains to be seen what.

Has Hulu confirmed Airplay support? I contacted them asking why they didn't allow videos to be played on a TV using the Apple video cable, and they said their licensing restrictions prevent that. So I don't really see them supporting Airplay.

I wouldn't bank on that happening. It violates hulus licensing to allow it's shows to be streamed on a tv so I doubt they'll be able to Activate airplay

Not sure, but they released Hulu Plus for the Roku player and for other Blu-ray players/and PS3 and soon to be Xbox 360. So I don't think it is because it can't be played on the TV. I think it has more to do with Apple TV or something

I really hope that if gestures do come, the one hand still be operated one handed!

The plus side about not having a menu button would be the possibility of having a bigger screen while having the same footprint!

Here is the response I got from Hulu Support:
Hi David,
Thanks for your email, and for being a Hulu Plus subscriber since August!
Unfortunately, due to limitations with our content partners, we aren't able to enable the video-out feature for the iPad and iPhones at this time. We do get quite a few requests for it though, and will continue to work with these partners to try and allow this feature at some point in the future, but I don't have a timeframe for when it might be available (though, I would love to have this feature myself).
I wish I had better news for you, but please let me know if you have any other questions.
Happy Holidays!
Devin

Thanks for the heads up. I hate the politics :(

Since Hulu didn't have that functionality I tried Netflix which does allow the video out to work. I would suspect Netflix would be more willing to support Airplay in the near future.
I've found a lot more shows on Netflix that I actually want to watch, though there are still some shows unique to Hulu. Netflix also doesn't have current episodes like Hulu does.

Yeah, I have been using netflix through apple TV but honestly the app isn't that good. I was having real bad start and stops last night. switch to my 360 and it was perfect. I just want hulu plus since all I watch is network TV shows. Once I can stream that, I have no need for my $90 cable package

Oh cool I didn't realize Netflix was already built in to the Apple TV. Their iPhone/iPad app has some interface problems, but I have had no trouble with their streaming.

I just need better notification system in iOS 5.0, the rest is just small.

Although Hotspots seems great :p

im hoping that we will have quicker access to wifi and 3g. going into setting, then click wifi then click turn off is a lot of steps. turning of 3g is even worse. i think Apple should make it like palm. Click the wifi/ 3g symbol at the top. Then a little wifi, 3g and airplane picture pop out and you click the ones you want on or off. very simple and only 1 step to get to it. And to go with that click the battery icon to turn down brightness. i would like this to go along with notifications in ios 5. i think this is something we might see in a new ui. nothing to get rid of the apps and their sizes but more along the lines of this. what does everyone think?

I think it will be interesting what Apple does, as they just offered 4.2.5 for Verizon's new iP4 on 3G, the only feature standard that AT&T doesn't have is WiFi hotspot, however AT&T offers Visual Voice Mail for free and Verizon charges for it?

What is even in the 4.3 for the iP4 on AT&T anyway? Is WiFi hotspot and I am sure AT&T will charge extra if you get this option.

iOS 4.3 has shown that Apple is willing to make big changes in a point update. The addition of WiFi Personal Hotspot, AirPlay from 3rd parties and 4 finger gesture controls are not the kind of additions you'd expect from a "maintenance update".

So what does this mean for iOS5?

It appears that we should expect some ground breaking changes in iOS5. Discuss.
I think what it means is that home buttons have been failing left and right since iOS4 and they needed to come up with an alternative.

For any "ground breaking" features in iOS5, I would just look at the jailbreak community.

So we'll get 4.3 in March, and a 5.0 announcement in April. iPad 2 announcement in Feb, and release in April. iPhone 5 announced in June. These next few months will be interesting.

That's not true. Hulu Plus is available for the PS3, the Tivo box, Roku, and even built directly into HDTVs. Hulu probably can't wait to activate Airplay on the iPhone and iPad and get more potential subscribers.

Based on the Lion demo, and Apple's vision of "back to the Mac", I don't see the UI changing much for iOS. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see some changes, but Apple stated, that the Mac was going to act more like iOS in terms of its apps. Launch Pad bring all your apps up just like on iOS.

If we are to believe what Apple told us concerning the Lion upgrade, I really don't see a significant change to iOS. Only my $.02

Hmmm.... Intelliscreen?!?

I'm like some others here, just give me a better notification system and I'm happy. Maybe this could be part of the overall solution....

As far as I'm concerned and iv said this a few times on my YouTube channel, the next set of serious updates from apple should feature better updates features. Cos at the minute it's my one only gripe with the OS. The disturbance to whatever I'm doing to deal with an update. Also feature to allow quick toggle on connectivity withought going through settings.

Am I wishful thinking forum?!

Easier acses to wifi
More keyboard layouts
Multitouch gestures
Icon updates

I assume you meant "easier access to wifi" what exactly do you mean by that? How could the iPhone make accessing wifi any easier?

More keyboard layouts? Which layouts specifically are you looking for? There are tons and tons of different keyboard layouts already. The only one that seems to be lacking is the Dvorak keyboard, and research shows there is no real benefit to that layout.

Which multitouch gestures are you looking for, what would they do and are they reasonable on such a small display? You wouldn't really be able to use any of those gestures operating the phone one handed, by the way.

Icon updates? As in live updating icons or simply some new icons?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I doubt the UI will be redesigned from scratch for iOS 5.0, I think there will possibly be some tweaks and color changes.

I think notifications will be integrated into the multitasking bar, do you?

Top shelf

If the gestures introduced in 4.3 are any clue, iOS 5 will introduce another shelf -- this one coming from above. In 4.3 gesture up brings up the app shelf. Gesture side to side switches between apps. Gesture down does nothing currently.

A notification panel coming from the top when you gesture down would be useful. It could also contain quickly accessible changes such as WiFi and airplane mode.
