Tough in Afghanistan

I'm on Bagram, and have been trying to download this update through iTunes since it was released. I get to about 24MB (after 2 hours) and it drops me. I finally just went to Piratesbay.org and found it and am downloading it now with uTorrent; quickly, too. I plan to burn it to a few cd's and post it on the bulletin board, because I know there a quite a few iPhone users over here and we'll all be pulling our hair out with this crappy Indian internet service we have. (IO Global - $100 a month for a maximum of 128kbits. It would take me 15 hours to download the 377MB update.

BTW, in case you're wondering, we all have factory unlocked iPhones, not your crappy AT&T locked versions. They have a SIM provider on base "Rashan". Works great, can even get data for the web. Works with iPads, too.

I am very much looking forward to the Bluetooth keyboard function! I text with my girlfriend, family at work, and it would be cool to simply have my wireless keyboard in the desk drawer and I can simply type in replies instead of texting.

Hey, once I download this thing, how do I get iTunes to open it and update the iPhone? Do I have to place it in a folder?

Oh, does OS4 allow for unlimited-length voice recordings? Was that ~78mb issue fixed in an OS3 update?

so now that the RedSn0w jailbreak is out, does this mean it's safe for me to upgrade the OS on my 3G iPhone to 4.0. My intention is to sell it on thursday (already found a buyer), and so far I have held back from upgrading because I wanted to make sure I sold it in a jailbreak-able condition so to speak should the purchaser be looking to use it for another carrier?

any suggestions?

Yea I have a suggestion .... Don't upgrade!!

i already miss double-tapping to bring up ipodcontrols w/out exiting the program. is there another way to bring up ipod controls without exiting the program?

Double-tap, swipe right... ta-da.

These controls now control Pandora/etc if they are playing in the background to boot, and the app icon will take you to the app currently playing audio in the background.

Discovered feature

I am running iOS 4 on my iPhone 4. I noticed something that I never experienced before. When my phone reached 10% battery while on a phone call, the phone made a noise like draining power of a electrical device to aurally alert me. It was cool and unexpected. Anyone else experienced this?

Where?

I checked in Settings > Messages and only have Show Preview, Repeat Alert, and Character Count as options to enable.

Odd, you should see a switch to enable and disable MMS.

There's been an issue with people's profiles getting messed up when they upgrade (these are modifiable by a system admin in an enterprise setting). It sounds like your profile thinks you're not allowed to use MMS. If you restore your phone and set it up as new this problem will go away. Look up how to modify iPhone profiles (I believe there is software that comes with OS X, or in the developer install that lets you do this).
