Double tap and hoooold doesn't bring up favorites anymore. The early beta builds had that but it didn't make it to the GM or the general release.
HOWEVER, for the 3G the double tap should still be customizable form the Settings, since there is no multitasking.

Great. Now I've got a dozen apps running in suspended mode in my task mana... er... switcher. How the hell do you close an app for real instead of just suspending it? When there are several suspended apps, how can you close them all at once instead of closing them all individually?

I was worried that iOS would slow down my 3GS. It actually appears to have made it noticeably faster. I hope that this doesn't effect the battery life any.

Can't wait to get an iPhone 4 with the larger battery, that has been my single largest complaint about the iPhone so far. To be fair, the battery life of any smart phone I've owned so far has not been great.

The por old iPod touch 2G is a little iffy with the new software, but it still works .. Any anyways, vie seen it struggle before the update anyways. There's some newer apps that just don't play well with it. The 3GS h as been working like a dream this week. Some apps in landscape mode tend to crash if you have the orientation lock on, but this will probably be fixed in further updates.

The Skype update can't come fast enough. Apart from be able to access other apps during calls, I'm sick to death of being put on hold when a notification pops up on the phone. It drives me spare..

Funny, iTunes must know I don't want to update, it still tells me the newest software version is 3.1.3 for my 3G.

If you have a 3G, just use redsn0w....its fast, easy and lets you activate backgrounds, multitasking, orientation lock and battery %. And in all honesty, the 3G is handling the new features relatively well. Its a tad choppier (i mean a tad), but IMO its worth it....at least for orientation lock.

Orientation lock should be on all versions of 4.0...its simple code, nothing fancy...its just telling the system to ignore the accelerometer data. Shame on you Apple  .

GREATEST LINK;
http://oo.apple.com

It's an iAd OP OUT LINK!!! Someone test it! :D

If it works, my primary reasons for not upgrading my 2G Touch to iOS 4 has just been voided.

I've been a Mac-tard for several decades now and the above link just pushed my respect towards this company up a few notches again, but it's still not what it was even a year back. ** This NO longer applies! **

********
OK, that DOESN'T work. :(

Unsuccessful Op Out! BLeh!

To make matters worse, the wallpaper features say it's set, but does NOT work. On the other hand, being able to edit a playlist is fine, but my Nexus One's Music App does this + more. Speaking of which, I've been using my N1 with Froyo 2.2 for a few weeks now and now my 2G iPod Touch feels naked in comparison and also really poky.

HOLY CRAP! So my 2G Touch does NOT SUPPORT WALLPAPER?!! Is Apple kidding me? This is freaking ridiculous! This update was a HUGE mistake and I thought Opt Out would actually work...

I hope all the reviews warn 3G and 2nd Gen iPod Touch users not to upgrade unless they absolutely need to. Performance is terrible.

I wish I'd known this before I upgraded - performance is indeed shocking, akin to the worst Symbian Nokia. Laggy, slow - all the effort has been put into making apps load in a whizzier way but then... they don't open very quickly.

I wish I'd not upgraded - now I'm stuck with an OS that wasn't designed for my phone and can't handle it.

If I was a cynic I'd say that this was done on purpose to make 3G owners look at iPhone 4 where they might not have before. Oh right, I am a cynic.

great....................

I have no problem to download the updates but after 3 hours it is still backing up and I don't know how long I gotta wait....................

Have you read anything in this discussion? See https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/10247117/ for starters.

Right. So now I have dozens of apps in "saved state" mode. Where is that state saved? (Hint: it's not saved in magical pixie dust) It's still taking up system resources to keep all that crap around, even though those resources aren't CPU or RAM.

I can't wait; in a few months my phone will be full of "Other" data because I've got 300 apps all suspended to flash because I can't terminate a program 100% without jumping through hoops.

Nah, never!

Apple wants you to use your 3G for many years and they will optimise software for it especially.

I don't understand the difference between Cellular Data Off and Airplane Mode On. They both disable the cell connection don't they?

My understanding is that "Cellular Data Off" just disables data connections over the mobile network, but calls will still be possible.

And...

Airplane mode turns off all radios, including bluetooth and wifi.
